Irene Vermont Photos Show Storm's Devastation (SLIDESHOW)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/01/11 01:46 AM ET   Updated: 10/31/11 06:12 AM ET

The storm may be over, but the post-Irene cleanup has a long way to go.

Vermont suffered some of Irene's worst blows. The storm caused the state's worst flooding in a century, left thousands without power, and killed four people.

In Killington, Vermont, one family managed to document some of the devastation. Mitch and Terri Kayden of Nyack, NY were on vacation with their two sons, Josh and Jacob, when the storm hit. Below is slideshow of the photos taken in the aftermath of Irene.

There were several covered bridges destroyed in this storm, along with the famous Simon Pearce flagship store. Where is the additional reporting? I thought Huff Post would have taken a lesson from CNN's over-the-top boring and useless coverage of NYC's empty streets and 1/2 inch of water.

Do you know how many New Yorkers escape the city for a weekend in VT? Maybe you can all pitch in and help my friends, family, and state recover! Or will you just wait until your travel agent tells you Killington is open again?

Some FB spots to offer support:

Let me see.....20 shots of the SAME spot? Wow huff po..... what reporting. There are DOZENS and DOZENS of pictures if you google Wilmington, VT and Ludlow, VT and Jamaica, VT.

This is just plain NOTHING.... compared to the other photos you will see.

Pathetic.

Agreed, i thought someone had compiled an actual slideshow. My little Mad River Valley, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren, and devastated Rochester, and Waterbury, i have been posting photos of my travels for days. Just heartbreaking. There is not enough money in the country (due mostly to wasteful wars and tax breaks for "job creator class") and not enough gravel to rebuild the roads, what of the loss of actual Americans, and hearty Vermonters?? Please help...

Let us all be thankful that President Obama and a real qualified FEMA chief are on the job. If Brownie was still around I can't imagine how much worse things would be. By the way did anyone catch that pathetic interview he Brownie did on Fake Snooze? I lmao because when I need to get information about how the government should respond to a natural disaster of this magnitude or worse like Katrina was. The last person I would want to talk to is Michael "Brownie" Brown. Hang in there Vermont and all other states help is on the way.
