What To Do In NYC Over Labor Day

Electric Zoo Festival
Where: Randall's Island
When: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 11AM-9:40PM

It may indeed be Labor Day, but why rest up when Randall's Island will be playing venue to some of the biggest DJ's and electronic musicians? David Guetta, Tiesto, and Chromeo are just a few of the big acts scheduled to takeover the island with plenty of music, dancing, etc.

Fort Tilden
Where: Fort Tilden, Queens
When: Every Day, Dawn to Dusk
Price: Free
Beat the crowds at the Rockaways for a go at hidden gem, Fort Tilden State Park. It's a bit more difficult to reach, so grab a bike if you're able to. The park's near-pristine beaches, privacy, and of course topless sunbathing are worth the trek.

Labor Day Local Rock Fest

This Saturday, The Knitting Factory celebrates local musicians with an afternoon of shows from the likes of Ritz Riot!, Saturn Unleashed, and The Rejects.

Barney's Warehouse Sale

Price: 50-75% off retail price
Shoppers rejoice! Barney's has extended their Warehouse Sale to last till next Wednesday, September 7th but we recommend you take advantage of the Labor Day exodus out of the city in order to score the best finds.

The Palms

It's the last weekend for dumpster pool goers at The Palms where Reggie Watts and Small Black will be performing. A rolodex of DJ's will be spinning all night, so make sure to hit the cabanas and wish the summer party goodbye.

Fool's Gold Day Off

City Winery is opening their backyard for a day of food, drinks, and of course, music for those who want to celebrate their day off with a party.

Take an intimate look inside the museum's founding collection, which is on display till September 11th. The exhibit showcases a fascinating perspective into the road from a private to public collection.

Game, Set, Match At The US Open

While the rest of the city is stuck in traffic and struggling to get out of town, the world's best tennis players and high profile celebrities, will be in Flushing, Queens. So if sports is more your thing, make sure to attend a match. Anna Wintour's already made an appearance.

PS1 Warm Up
Where: MoMa PS1
When: Saturday, 2PM-9PM
Price: $15 includes admission to museum
Celebrate arts, music, and dancing at MoMa PS1's final party installation Warm Up 2011. Horse Meat Disco, Midnight Sun, and more will be present in order to ensure a wild dance party to end the summer.

Smorgasbord

The New York Botanical Garden

One of the city's most beautiful gardens and natural escapes will be open to the public this Labor Day. It's also a great chance to visit Mario Batali's Edible Garden exhibition which ends September 25th.

Drink up in the form of pickleback specials and classic burgers and hot dogs at The Bell House where Wasabassco will be hosting a special burlesque show.

Rock the Bells
Where: Governor's Island
When: Saturday, 12PM
Price: $99 general admission, $199 VIP admission
There's another star studded island takeover at this year's Rock the Bells on Governor's Island. Hip hop legends Lauryn Hill, Nas, and Erykah Badu headline this year's annual festival and will also feature plenty of fresh newcomers.
