Rihanna Under Pressure From PETA For Feather Top (PHOTO)

Remember when Rihanna stepped out in that teal explosion of feathers?

Apparently it wasn't just fashion bloggers who weren't keen on the look. PETA had its issues with Rihanna's outfit as well.

The Daily Mail reports that the ostrich feathers that covered the entire top have angered PETA activists, as the feathers might have been collected in a cruel or harmful way -- possibly while the animal was still alive.

A PETA spokesperson spoke to the Daily Star about Rihanna's offense, taking this interesting tack: "We keep hoping that Rihanna, a victim of violence herself, will learn to open her heart and start empathising with the suffering of others."

Apparently Rihanna is quite the repeat offender -- PETA called out the star for wearing "foxes, cows and reptiles," who's appeared in all sorts of fur over years (although we wonder if items like this crazy hat were faux or real).

Guess Riri won't be the next celeb stripping down for the animal rights organizations, which loves its celebrities and models. Christy Turlington, Christina Applegate, Alicia Silverstone and dozens more have posed in PETA's "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ads. Designer Stella McCartney has also been a huge fashion advocate of the cause.

Maybe Stella can send some new tops Rihanna's way...

Why would she care, apparently it doesn't bother her whether the animal suffered or not. A lot of people are like her, they don't care, they don't have to kill the animal to get the fur and they don't have to see how they are killed to get that fur, so why lose sleep over it? I'm no PETA supporter but I think wearing furs/feathers/hyde is sickening. But that's just me!

PETA is an extremist organization much like the NRA. I heart is with them in principle, but their extremists stances, nonsensical accusations and actions lose the support of the stuff between my ears.

It's very unflattering anyway. But people do eat ostrich steaks and ostrich eggs -- the feathers are a byproduct of the ostrich farm, just like chicken feathers or calf leather.

Unless you choose to be vegan, it doesn't make much sense to throw out the byproducts, if they can be used.

As the saying goes about pigs, our ancestors "used everything except the squeak". If we're not vegan, than this is the most ecological approach to consuming animals -- waste nothing.

I don't know. I eat meat and wear leather belts and shoes so I can't really be all PETA-ish and critisize her (actually I am a little broke so I actually probably wear fake leather most often but whatever).

I guess I would be more interested to know about the celebrities who pose for their ads. Are they all vegetarians who don't wear leather?

It is probably made from ostrich tail plumage which can be cut from the bird without any stress on the bird. Still, a luxurious soft hemp wrap would be better.
