Summit High School Scores Touchdown On First Play In School History (VIDEO)

High School Team Scores On First Play Ever

Summit High School in Spring Hill, Tenn., wanted to have a football team despite being a brand new school with an enrollment of roughly 500 comprised of only freshman and sophomores.

Even though they knew they'd have to play against older, more experienced teams, the Spartans formed a squad of their own and received their first kick-off in school history on August 19th. What they did with that kick-off against Clarksville Northwestern, is something none of the players will ever forget.

Sophomore Phillip Sheary used some timely blocks to take the kick back 97 yards for the touchdown, giving the Spartans their first (and quickest) 6-0 lead in school history.

“I got two great blocks and then it was just wide open,” Shearry told The Spring Hill Advertiser News. “It was amazing. I’m speechless right now.”

Northwestern ended up winning the contest 34-12, but for the Summit players, just having the chance to play the game was a victory in itself.

“We fought the whole the way,” Summit head coach Scot Keasler said. “I’m extremely proud of the kids.”
