Toddler Killed, Grandmother Hurt In West Pullman Crash; 45-Year-Old Driver Ticketed

Driver Charged In West Pullman Crash That Killed Toddler

A 23-month-old girl was killed and her grandmother hospitalized Saturday following a traffic collision in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood.

Dominique Gilbert and her grandmother were in the crosswalk in the 12400 block of South State Street around 10:20 a.m. when 45-year-old Dana Cross crashed the vehicle she was driving into them, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Both Dominique and her grandmother were taken to Oak Lawn's Advocate Christ Medical Center in "very critical condition," but Dominique was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m. Her grandmother's condition stabilized by mid-afternoon Saturday.

Cross has been cited with one charge of failure to yield to pedestrians, the Chicago Tribune reports. An investigation, including toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, is ongoing.
