What America needs to do is - STOP celebrating death and understand that, no matter what we do, it could happen again. This constant 'fear' thing is not healthy and can make the problem worse not better.

Agreed. This is such a broken record, each day another reminder. It was a horrible event, but can we ever move on with our lives? Ten years is a long time.

The day we can't forget, and yet:

• Larry Silverstein who has amassed a huge fortune: “The insurance policies obtained in July 2001 for World Trade Center buildings 1, 2, 4 and 5 had a collective face amount of $3.55 billion. Following the 9/11 attack, Silverstein sought to collect double the face amount (~$7.1 billion) on the basis that the two separate airplane strikes”

Yes, I would say that the Civil War was MUCH darker. In fact, in terms of lives lost as a portion of the nation's population, the Civil War was the equivalent of 9/11 happening each for the North AND the South EVERY SINGLE DAY for almost FOUR YEARS!

Not saying that Canadians are bumpkins, but your really propriate the stereotype. You don't know what American's consider a dark day, and why should you -- you're a simple minded boob who couldn't possibly grasp the sadness of 9/11. You chase butterflies and wade in creeks then fall asleep to reruns of "Family Fued" - we American's kind of envy that, and then we roll up are sleeves and get to work to support you. But we don't mind. It's almost like you're our retarded little brother who says innapropiately funny things. You couldn't possibly grasp the horror of that day - almost 3,000 civilians murdered at the hands of terrorism. You can't imagine 3,000 people all at once because in your backwoods home, that's not possible. So sleep tight, "canadaisjustbetterthanu", the US is watching your back. In the meantime, hug your parents, go to school, and learn that your should capatilze Canada. No go on blow some bubbles and ride your bike! And say hello to the person that had to read this to you!

Yes 9/11 was a trerrible event, but the handling of it by the Bush Administration has made our country weak and was 9/11 used as an excuse to do things WE SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE. It is time to move forward from 9/11 and get the country back on track. We cannot continue to live in fear 24/7, which the media continues to hype constantly, and America needs to stop being the parent of the world. Time to take care of our own people.

BTW, Canadians are better than us in this respect, they take care of their citizens. Have you ever been there? Calling them retarded? You are an idiot.
03:43 PM on 09/11/2011
Well I love Canadians generally, but you're not putting Canada's best foot forward, are you?

1. Pearl Harbor? Grim indeed, but no, 9/11 was grimmer. And everyone in the country experienced it simultaneously. Definitely our darkest day.

2. The Civil War was not a day, genius. It was a period in our history that went on for years.

This has been little more than a day of remembrance for the media elites.

It’s hard to imagine a greater tragedy than that of ten years ago but I’m afraid we have seen just that this weekend.

I said this, I said that, I was here, I was there…….

We have far more to fear from the “media” than we do from any terrorist.

A sad day for our country in so many once unimagined ways.

"Little more than a day of remembrance?"

What more do you want? The sort of emotional masturbation we've been subjected to for the past month? What is wrong with a day of remembrance? What else would you have people do?

No, RAB, we have more to fear from our government than from any terrorist because of TSA and the Patriot Act. I've never even gotten a speeding ticket in my life, yet I've been groped by male TSA agents three times right after 9/11 before they changed their policies, and several times after that by female TSA agents, simply because I look Muslim. Never mind the fact that the majority of Muslims are peace loving people who are just as against the events of 9/11 as you and I, but just because someone has dark skin and black hair doesn't mean they're Middle Eastern, Muslim, or a terrorist.

As a rape survivor, getting patted down by strangers made me feel violated. The 4th Amendment of the Constitution doesn't seem to exist anymore due to TSA and the Patriot Act. Patting down babies and searching dying elderly ladies' adult diapers is out of line. Somehow, the "just doing my job" excuse doesn't hold water for me anymore.

It's not because you look Mulim because I am blond hair blue eyed and I got the TSA treatment. By the way, believing in God isn't about proof, it's about faith.

I don't think it has anything to do with the "rewards" our soldiers should get, because a good deed should be done without expecting anything in return. Just please hold on to the love and support that many of us DO show for your soldier's hardwork and ability to nearly lose his life for many of us. I appreciate it, and have a deep understanding of the wonderful acts of kindness many soldiers, cops and medical personnel donated so that we, as a country, can someday be okay.

Think of the U.S. news media as soldiers. They recieve their marching orders from their commanders in governement and they obey.

What I remember about 9/11 most vividly is when the Twin Towers collapsed it was reported on TV that it was thought that maybe up to 50,000 people were in the Towers when they collapsed.

This comment will make heads explode, but I am fed up with 9/11 coverage. I think it just picks at the scab. I believe that if any remembrance is done, it should be for all our young men and women who volunteered to go to war and possibly die...they were not just in the wrong place at the wrong time like the victims of the attacks on WTC. Families of 9/11 victims have gotten millions in restitution...what do our dead soldiers' families get? NOT MUCH!
07:28 AM on 09/11/2011
I agree with you 100percent.What has happened is over they were paid as if it was an insurance obligation and they are making a big stink over it .I lost alot of friends that day also. They are with the angels. But the all the service men and women who lost their lives for protecting us why isn't there a fund to pay their families millions. They put thier lives on the line every single day!
10:16 AM on 09/11/2011
Actually, our men and women in uniform VOLUNTEERED to fight for their country. They signed on the dotted line knowing full well that they could lose their lives in time of war. Who knew that GWB would start two unnecessary wars, one based on lies and put all our soldiers in harm's way because we were attacked on 9/11 by individuals WHO REPRESENTED NO COUNTRY - just an ideological group of terrorists headed by bin Laden!

Nothing is preventing you from doing that. Hundreds of thousands have died since then as a result of the acts of a few. Showing respect for that is not showing disrespect for the victims of 9/11, it is a simple acknowledgement of the consequences of that day being much larger than a single event. I don't think telling everyone who doesn't completely agree with your point of view that they have no right to be here does much to honor the lives lost.
