The White House has released a gallery of behind-the-scenes photos, which provide insight into how President Barack Obama spent the dog days of summer.

While Congress left Capitol Hill on August recess to vacation and face angry constituents at home, Obama began the month by celebrating a successful, yet controversial, deal to raise the debt ceiling. The president then turned his focus toward addressing the persistent jobs crisis with a three-day Midwest bus tour, before catching a week of leisure on a family trip to Martha's Vineyard.
