Entertainment Weekly:

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have confirmed to EW that they plan to adapt their Broadway hit The Book of Mormon for the big screen. The multiple Tony-winning comedy-musical, which stars Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad as a pair of Mormon missionaries attempting to find converts in Uganda, has been playing to sold out houses since opening this spring and a national tour is set to debut in Denver, Colo., next summer.

Although a "Book of Mormon" movie would be awesome, it would be very hard for it to compare to the amazing Broadway production.

I hope Trey Parker and Matt Stone actually play the 2 Mormon missionaries themselves, that would be hilarious to see them do some acting!

Do it with puppets or animated with South Park characters!

I'm not a Mormon, but I must say that the best and most compassionate neighbor I ever had was a kind, Mormon lady. She's the only Mormon I've ever actually gotten to know. If one needed help with something, she was there for you. I have a copy of the Book of Mormon because some Mormon guys going house to house with their message left it on my doorstep. The gist of it appears to be that the Bible, as most of us know it, didn't just stop with the book of Revelation, but is ongoing, although I've forgotten most of the details.

Parker and Stone have said mormons are actually the nicest people they have ever met. They make fun of them because its still a rather new religion.

I knew a lot of Mormons growing up. It amazes me that so many very nice people could be members of such a dumb religion.

One of the great moments from the show, and notably kid friendly.

Mormonism, the scientology of the 1800's.
10:10 AM on 09/13/2011
Hardly. Scientology is based on L Ron Hubbards science fiction novels and Mormonism is based on God and Jesus Christ..... Just like any other Christian religion.... it's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.... Mormon is a nickname because of the Book... which is NOT the "bible" of the religion... the King James Bible is. get your facts and history straight before you post stupid, uninformed comments

lol - is that it? It's based on "God and Jesus Christ"?? It's just that simple?

It's not some guy who found some magic plates that only he could read, could never verify, and contained some of the most absurd c.r.a.p one could imagine?

You should open your mind to the idea that Mormonism was basically science fiction. If you believe it, great, but don't get pis.sed at others for questioning the fact you believe in nonsense.

Mormonism is sci-fi just like every other religion that man has made up. Get a clue.

I'm confused...is this musical poking fun at Mormonism or glorifying it?

Breath slow and deeply. You are safe and among people who care for you. Go to see the play after your release and decide for yourself.

While I don't agree with the morman belief that Christianity was gone and Joseph Smith brought it back. (it fundamentaly flies in the face of what Christ did). I do believe that any attempt to deface the christian beliefs is a blow to all Christianity. Could you imaging if a movie was made mocking radical Islam, the world would be up in arms! Sad day for Christianity.

True... if you're a cult, any publicity is good publicity... but once you're a major world religion, you don't want anyone to say anything bad about you... that's just about the only difference between cults and religions... oh and religions have more money than cults.
07:48 PM on 09/13/2011
Jesus Christ was a cult leader and it worked! :)

Stay positive and you'll live longer and be happier!
