Obama Jobs Plan

New Yorker:

A few hours before President Obama presented his new job-creation plan to Congress last week, Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, made a less ballyhooed appearance, before the Economic Club of Minnesota. Bernanke reminded his audience that it has been exactly three years since the financial crisis that attended the collapse of Lehman Brothers. Then he pointed out that the recession that Obama had inherited from his Republican predecessor was even more calamitous than had previously been thought. Recent revisions to government statistics show that, between the end of 2007 and the second quarter of 2009, the Gross Domestic Product declined by more than five per cent—the deepest drop since the Second World War.

Obamy's like an old oak leaf - tired, brittle, useless, burnt out, going anywhere the wind blows

Once your sailboat hits a reef, all the tack in the world will not get your boat to float undamadged.
Pandering to Republicans and big money interests has not made Obama a captain of his ship.

"How President Obama Has Changed His Tack" -- that is a good thing.

But the only way the GOP will accept him is if he changes his color.

"The President Has Finally Changed Tack" ???

The article did not say what the President's new tack was.
Meanwhile, Sam Stein sees nothing new in Obama's jobs plan, calling it rehash of the old ideas.

"a widespread belief that the Administration’s first stimulus package was a failure" ???

It was NOT a failure, but it was not enough. Economists said so at the time.

What makes anybody think he's changed tack...?

He still says one thing and does another.
No change there.

“Then he pointed out that the recession that Obama had inherited from his Republican predecessor was even more calamitous than had previously been thought.” This point should remind Americans, Republicans and Democrats alike and every other citizen of this democracy. Captivity to depression and slime for mortar will bring depravity to unheralded levels when building an honest relationship to the Truth. Many will remain like that 'Pilate' or awake as Nehemiah when faced the dilemma of what to do. As cup-bearers to the king or pallbearers to death of a nation, Americans can no longer stand and do nothing. With our hearts we should weep and mourned for righteousness. It was not only just when Nehemiah heard the news that he fell into a passion of weeping, but his sorrow continued certain days. Instant in prayer, the desolation and distresses of America is real and ought to be the matter of our grief, how much soever we live at ease like that Pilate. Nehemiah fasted and prayed; not in public nor because of opportunity but of importunity, the need was heavy and grave of not doing that, As Americans, the church has no walls, the leeches of discontentment have dissolve those, but before the God of heaven, who sees in secret, and will reward openly. By our fasting and praying, consecrating sorrows directing tears aright, sorrowed after a godly sort, with an eye to God, because his name was reproached in the contempt cast on his people,

There is a call on America! Americans be like Nehemiah, by his fasting and praying, (1.) He ordained his sorrows, and directed his tears aright, 'sorrowed after a godly sort', with an eye to God, because His name is being reproached in the contempt cast on His people, whose cause therefore he thus commits to Him. (2.) Americans eased eased of sorrows help your brothers, and unburdened his spirit, the elect everywhere are called to pouring out his complaint before God and leaving it with Him. (3.) Americans should take the right method of sequestering in relief for Americans and directions in what way to serve absolute truth. Let those who are forming any good designs for the service of the public take God along with them for the first conception of them, and utter all their projects before Him; this is the way to prosper in them.

When our unemployed workers deplete thier unemployment instead of extending it, it would be wiser to create work repairing and building up our infrastructure. Unemployment keeps people fed and housed but leaves them idle. There simply is not enough jobs today and since our constitution does say pursuit of happiness, happiness to me is finding a job so if the businesses can't provide them what else can we do? This all started in 2001 and has steadily grown worse. Call it socialism or any other "ism" but jobs are needed, not for me since I'm old and retired but for our people who are ready , able, and want JOBS.

When you allow companies to take in Indians to work on IT projects and outsource and offshore other work, then the only solution is to retrain jobless americans at no cost to them - PAID by the very same companies that take in foreign workers and offshore/outsource their work.

While Obama and Co. are busily rearranging the deck chairs our Republican friends are cutting holes in the bottom of the boat to let the water out. If Rick Perry is elected he will head for the next iceberg at flank speed.

"New spending on schools and infrastructure will be a tougher sell, and that is unfortunate. Investments of this sort create more jobs than tax cuts of equivalent cost, and they add to the economy’s productive potential."

I would hazard a guess that if the money that was spent on bailing out the Banks, was spent on Job Creation, we would not be in the dire position that we now are in. But they have more political clout. So here we are.
