Bystanders Lift Burning Car To Save Pinned Motorcyclist (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/13/11 04:10 PM ET Updated: 11/13/11 05:12 AM ET

As a 21-year-old motorcyclist lay pinned underneath a burning car, a group of courageous bystanders worked feverishly to save his life, The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

After colliding with a BMW on U.S. Highway 89 near Utah State University Monday, Brandon Wright became trapped underneath the flaming vehicle.

According to the The Salt Lake Tribune:

The motorcycle and Wright were pulled under the car, where the motorcycle’s gas line was severed, causing the bike and the car to catch fire while he was trapped underneath, [Assistant Logan Police Chief Jeff] Curtis said.

Wright reportedly suffered broken bones, cuts, and burns, but thanks to the brave bystanders who lifted the car and pulled him out, he survived the accident.

The driver of the car only suffered minor injuries, but was "shaken up," according to the Tribune.

Yes this is a great story and I love to read them as it shows there IS compassion in this country. I bet they acted out of pure humanatarian instinct and did not bother to ask if he had health insurance.

Just when I was beginning to think people were nothing but cruel, heartless and selfish...those people had to prove me wrong.

This crowd could teach the FDNY a thing or two about not dropping cars on motorcyclists!

Why is self-reliance a dirty word to you?

Why is compassion a dirty word to you. You can be both, it is possible.
02:24 PM on 09/14/2011
An act of compassion says more about the person offering it than the one receiving it. We choose to give something when we don't have to and expect nothing in return. We don't disguise our contempt for those whom we judge unworthy of our help as "self-reliance". I didn't make self-reliance a dirty work, you did that all by yourself.

To the right wing this is a great story of self reliance How ever, if you look there is a cop there helping lift the car. And once the man was pulled out he did not just lay in the street, the government took him to get help, the government then took care that no one else got hurt by directing traffic, they removed the cars so further accidents wouldn't occur. Thank god for those courageous citizens, but they did not act alone.
Government still played a major roll that private citizens can not do by themselves, which is the purpose of Government. Somethings are just too big for the individual to deal with by themselves "We all need someone to lean on". Why not each other?

‘A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have..’~Thomas Jefferson

Please .... how do you get from government employees assisting someone pinned under a burning car, to a government that's going to "take everything you have"?

I'm not going to bother to Google for the many Jefferson quotes that support the concept of a strong federal union, or bother to mention that the 21st century is not the 18th century.
Why don't you just quote Ayn Rand and be done with it, you're obviously looking for pure Social Darwinism and a thorough reading of Jefferson is not going to give you that.

Americans of all stripes; black, white, women, men, construction workers, suits, students all coming together to save the health of 1 man? Sounds like that evil socialist single payer health care ;) This is quite the opposite instinct than Ron Paul and the rest of those anti-humans cheering for the uninsured man to die at the Republican Presidential Debate.

Do we have to politicize everything now in this country? Really?

This act goes against what is instinctually in us as human beings. It's the monsters in politics who try to wash our brains of this instinct. If you understand innate human psychology then you understand the games politicians play to jockey for more power. What the Right says is humans, Americans, don't want to help each other out and this proves each of them wrong. Yes, I will politicize this moment as the antithesis to wanting to eliminate Medicare or Medicaid. Americans and humans want to collectively help someone in need and the politics that say otherwise goes against the natural order of the universe. I don't care if politicizing this makes you squeamish, it's important for everyone to understand the distinction.

What an amazing spirit of humanity, selflessness, togetherness, to collectively lift a car to pull out a pinned motorcyclist underneath a fiery burning car. I saw the tape and was just deeply moved by the actions of the by-standers.

It wiped out the cynicism of the day before in FL debate when a few shouted out that a comatose man in a hospital without insurance should have been left to die.

Those brave people who saved this pinned motorcyclist, May God Bless you all. And thank you. You showed Us all that humanity is still alive and well.
