Occupy Wall Street: 20,000 To Gather On September 17th

Occupy Wall Street

First Posted: 09/15/11 06:23 PM ET Updated: 11/15/11 05:12 AM ET

On Saturday, September 17th, organizers for the event Occupy Wall Street are calling for 20,000 individuals to join their cause for government and corporate change by way of peaceful, non-violent protests.

The large-scale event, originally published back in July by Adbusters, a not-for-profit magazine aimed to "topple existing power structures," was inspired by the revolutionary events that swept through the Middle East earlier this year. The group's site reveals their hopes to transform Lower Manhattan into an "American Tahrir Square."

How exactly will the group invoke such radical change? Details have yet to be revealed but Occupy Wall Street organizer, Will Russell, a grad student at Hunter College, explains to the Village Voice, that yoga, pitched tents, and dancing to 'Thriller' will be sure to take place.

The hacker group, Anonymous, also announced their participation in a video released below.

Saturday's events have garnered traction through various social media outlets, including Twitter, which has seen the use of the hasthtag, #OccupyWallStreet. The group's Facebook event directs protestors to meet at Bowling Green Park at noon and then at 3pm to move to One Chase Manhattan Plaza for a people's assembly.

Well this turned out to be a colossal failure. 20,000 called for about 1,000 show up. Guess their numbers aren't as high as they think.

Tell me when they have one on the west coast. I'll do my best to show my support! rofl

Wall St lesson number 1 - the news corporations who OWE THEIR LIVES TO THEIR ADVERTISERS are NOT gonna show up and spit in their advertisers faces - hence, no news coverage.

Heard from a (more) politically active friend of mine who heard from a friend of hers that there are apparently massive protests going on in major cities across the US today--New York, Chicago, Austin, Portland, among others--AND protests in other countries worldwide, including the UK and Italy and it is getting almost NO news coverage. There's a nearly complete media blackout. I'm sorry, I don't care if you're progressive or not, if this is happening, it deserves to be covered.

Yes, we need reforms in our country to change with the times, as times have changed. I am appalled at our political system and the constant bickering of the parties which hurt the majority of Americans. Yes, congress has forgotten about the people. Their main objective is about getting re-elected. Yes we need changes to the election system, how political contributions are made and our tax laws. Yes we need change; however, we are not anywhere near having the monstrous problems that caused riotous protests in Tunisia, Egypt or Libya that overthrew their dictatorial regimes. Yes, Peaceful demonstrations to voice your views and opinion are great. Overthrow the government, NO. Get Real! Those regimes stole from their people, were totally corrupt and killed those that protested. We are far from that kind of revolt. We have our problems here in the US, but our government still looks out for its people and the United States of America is still the best country to live in on Earth.

It is very likely that 90% of these Wall Street “Day of Rage” protestor’s (mainly college kids) parents made their money through various venues of Wall Street to pay for their college education. Did they forget that or are they just closing a blind eye to it. These protestor’s should go back to school and read their history and economics books and see that it takes several years to recover from the economic debacle that we had in 2008-2009. Maybe they can research and see how long the progress of economic recovery takes. Following the Stock Market Crash in 1929 the bottom was not reached until 1932-1933. We are not only 2.5 years into a far faster recovery than that of the Great Depression of the 1930’s. Too many of our people here in America are spoiled and demand immediate results. Recovery for anything takes time whether it is our economy or an illness. Myself having traveled with work to close to 100 countries, we by far have a better life here than any other country.

I hereby endorse and support the "Occupy Wall Street" event:

https://occupywallst.org/users/ironboltbruce/

I also reinstate my support for the "Stop the Machine" event:

http://october2011.org/statement

I recognize that in so doing I am allying myself with people who do not share all of my political beliefs, that I will be standing side-by-side in protest with those of the Far Left - including Communists, Socialists and Anarchists - as well as those of the Far Right - including Libertarians, Tea Partyists and Ron Paulists. But politics makes for strange bedfellows, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I ask those more closely associated with these events to consider me at their disposal to support to the limits of my resources and abilities any and all actions - including non-violent civil disobedience - aimed at toppling the Kleptocracy, exposing the truth about 9/11, repealing the Patriot Act, reversing Citizens United v. FEC, ending our perpetual wars for oil and profit, retrieving the trillions of dollars stolen from or made burden of the taxpayers, and restoring Jeffersonian Democracy and the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America.

Lastly, I recognize that making this pledge public may have ramifications including being placed on no-fly or other surveillance lists, and for that I say Big Brother be damned: I do this for my grandchildren, in hopes they can grow up as free citizens rather than indentured slaves.

I'm still not sure what the protests are all about? Who has done wrong to whom? What change are the protesters looking for? Are they just mad that they can't have it their way? Seems like a group of young people who have been told that their worldly views should be taken seriously because they think so!

There are a lot more than 50 people - notice the paid help that sews descent. It took fox news over 12 hours to write about this - WONDER WHY? Because they don't want you to notice that the numbers are higher, the dues will be paid and the PEOPLE ARE ANGRY. You can help! Donate for food!

Do you think this looks like "50 people"? I don't.

The good thing about cops is that they're predictable. If you know what to expect from your adversary, you have the upper hand. Hopefully the protesters will get some gassing and clubbing on camera and the media will spin it as the protesters provoking cops, like they did at the RNC in MN. Who will you believe? Who do you really believe the cops work for? Do you really think they're anything more than paid security guards? If you can hear me guys, its time to drop the scary gas masks and black uniforms and realize that you are being corrupted and dehumanized. Do like the Irish did to the Scottish in Braveheart and come give us a big ol' hug :)

Egyptians showed us how to do this right but unfortunately our diet of cheap foods makes us tired and lazy and we lack direction because the NW0 and the corporate-government conglomerate has been planning this takeover for decades by keeping us divided, and they have us at a collective mental checkmate. All we need to do is find the beast that lies behind the mask of complacency.

Like only 1000 people showed up. Hell there has to be that many homeless in a three block area in NY already camping out. I have seen more people in walmart.
