Tiger Woods Might Not Qualify For Chevron World Challenge

Tiger Might Not Qualify For Own Tournament

Tiger Woods has had a rough comeback to the PGA Tour after his 11-week break from golf due to a knee injury. He struggled at the Bridgestone Invitational. He had a dreadful round at the PGA Championship and eventually missed the cut. Now, he's struggling to qualify for his own tournament.

Woods hosts the Chevron World Challenge in December, in which participants must be ranked in the world's top 50. As Tom Weir of USA Today pointed out on Wednesday, Woods is in danger of dropping lower than his current No. 46 spot after the BMW Championship this week.

However, Tournament director Greg McLaughlin remains confidant that Woods will be eligible to play.

Tiger shot his worst round ever at the PGA Championship back in August and couldn't even make it to the weekend after another meltdown in the second round.

After his poor performance at the last major of 2011 -- one so bad that it almost made Charles Barkley cry -- Tiger's spot on the U.S. squad for the 2011 Presidents Cup looked in doubt. Team captain Fred Couples said that Woods must prove he deserves a spot on the team by playing in a few more tournaments, including the Australian Open.

A week later, Couples added Woods to the team anyways.

"There is no reason for me to wait till Sept. 26 to pick Tiger," said Couples. "He's the best player in the world forever."

In hopes of backing up Couples' assessment, Tiger entered the Frys.com Open in California, which will be his first time competing in the PGA Tour's Fall Series.
