Romney today has defended Dick Cheney as a great and affective leader. Does he realize what he just said? I think the GOP is using Obama's low approval and the recent NY election as a reason to believe he can win regardless of what careless comments he makes.

Dick Cheney is so disliked among independents, and despised among Democrats, when asked about Cheney's new book and publicity stunts, should have played it down. It would have been like Reagan defending Nixon in 1980, which he would never have done in a million years. "Loose lips sink ships".

I would bet a majority of US citizens can no longer remember who was Vice President during the Bush Administration. He was a background figure, far less in the public eye than folks like Condi Rice and Donald Rumsfeld. In reality, he may have exerted more influence, at least in the first term, but perceptions are reality in Washington. Heck, besides the shooting a friend in the face with bird shot, what specific event would anyone grab onto that features Cheney?

When Cheney ordered F-16s to shoot down remaining commercial airplanes in the sky on 9/11 but was rebuked because he was not the Commander-in-Chief.

I'd say the Alberto Gonzales scandal as well.

Hmmm Scooter Libby?
