Evan Rachel Wood Talks Bisexuality, Falling In Love

Evan Rachel Wood Bisexual

First Posted: 09/16/11 11:49 AM ET Updated: 11/16/11 05:12 AM ET

Whether she was stepping out with ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson or chopping off her former long blonde locks, Evan Rachel Wood is never one to play it safe. But even though the anomaly that is Wood casts her as somewhat of a mystery within Hollywood's age of 'too much information' celebrity, there is one thing she isn't staying mum about -- her sexuality.

"Yeah, that's a big part of who I am, and it always has been for as long as I can remember," she told Marie Claire's October issue of her bisexuality. "I can't say I'm one way or the other because I've honestly fallen in love with a man and I've honestly fallen in love with a woman. I don't know how you label that, it's just how it is."

But just as her on-screen parts waiver between sweet southern belle and out of control bad girl, so does her role in relationships.

"Yeah, I'm more kind of like the guy when it comes to girls. I'm the dominant one," she told Esquire in April. "I'm opening the doors, I'm buying dinner. Yeah, I'm romantic."

And it's Wood's candid "no games" attitude that keeps men, women and directors wanting more. Wood is currently promoting her most recent flick, "The Ides Of March," alongside Hollywood heavyweights like George Clooney and Marisa Tomei.

Can't wait to see her in The Ides of March... Loved her on "True Blood" and the fact that sh'es bi, even better. "Bi Social Network...why does it matter? Because I get tired of folks thinking bi's are either straight or gay... like there are no grays in the world... wink.

Evan was my great-great-grandfather's first name. Most people I ever heard of named Evan were males. Do names identify who you are? Maybe some.

Just a theory on some part of what contributions are made to the makeup of what is most likely a complicated issue of sexual identity. Maybe only as valid as that theory of "intelligent design". Are we all 100% 'born this way' or does nurture have an influence on nature? I don't see too many absolutes in a world made up of so many facets.

Why do people like Evan feel the need to reveal such personal information about themselves? It has nothing to do with their work, and won't make them more popular as an actor. I just don't get the compulsion to reveal and discuss such things. This is waaaay TMI, and I could have enjoyed watching her entire career without knowing a thing about her private life. What gives with these people? IMHO, a person is far more interesting and intriguing when there's some mystery about them.

So can I assume then that you don't want to know anything about any performers lives or is it just the ones you find icky? No info about marriages, births or other things like that. None of those things have anything to do with their work so I guess you don't want to know about any of that either. If you say yes, I'm betting you're lying through your teeth.

How did you make that leap? I said nothing about it being "icky" and in no way implied any judgment of her. I just happen to think mystery is more interesting than letting it all hang out, and discussing personal sexual behaviors and proclivities should be reserved for her and who ever she's involved with. Why does the world need to know such things? And I certainly don't equate evelations of this nature with the announcement of a divorce or birth of a child, both of which would make the nightly news. I don't understand society's intrusive "need to know" such things or why anyone in her position would feel compelled to discuss it.

Most of the comments left on this article, and the staggering sexism and homophobia they display, are disgusting. I'm embarrassed to live in a country full of such oppressive and hateful people.

People need to get over their "Oh my god she's gay" thing. Sexuality is far more complex and multi-dimensional than most want to let themselves understand. Much of gender has nothing to do with sexuality, and indeed, in our deepest selves, we live in a universality that is beyond any gender identity.
11:09 AM on 09/17/2011
Yep, just ask David Vitter.
08:56 PM on 09/17/2011
That may be the reality for many. But for some of us our sexuality is quite clear. And we don't all feel the need to put down others who feel differently.

What sort of proof? When a gay person say they are gay do you ask for proof? If a person says they are this or that, I tend to believe it.
