Jon Hamm & Jennifer Westfeldt Talk Relationship Secrets

Hamm Westfeldt

First Posted: 09/18/11 08:50 PM ET Updated: 11/18/11 05:12 AM ET

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt stopped on the red carpet at the Emmys to chat with Giuliana Rancic about the secret to a lasting relationship. (While Jon doesn't "have the marriage chip," they have been together since 1997.)

"Breath mints. That's always important," Jon joked. "What else babe?"

"We have no secrets," Jennifer said. "There's no secrets."

"It's all good," said Jon.

Giuliana also asked him how he deals with the hotness of his reflection in the mirror.

"I've been looking in the mirror for 40 years now and it always looks the same to me," he said. "I don't know."

Jennifer recently told Vulture that she and Jon are "certainly not opposed" to having children.

"We've been working on separate coasts a lot. I was doing a play; Jon was doing Mad Men. I think you have to be ready to be in one place if you're going to embark on that," she said. "We'll see what the future brings."

I agree with john, there are no actual secrets for a relationship as also said by one of the famous relationships expert Peter Thijssens. He runs his own relatietherapie almere where he counsels couples and try to solve their problems. Peter says if you go with the flow and everything is fine with you and your partner that is the real success of your relationship. I think john & Jennifer belongs to that category.

Awww I didn't know they were a couple. I remember seeing them together in Kissing Jessica Stein. Very cool.

Poor Jennifer, left just hanging there while Giuliana fawns over Jon and literally forgets she's there.

All of the above.

I'm surprised he doesn't just burst out laughing at the lame questions he is asked. I have to change the channel because it is too embarrassing to watch.

I don't understand the whole "don't have the marriage chip"--or "anti-marriage".....if you're together for that long + you're committed + want to have kids (or maybe)-why would you not get married?....You're living a married life + getting actually married isn't going to ruin anything.....it just enhances the statement of commitment.

Marriage is a legal contract. Some people want it, some people don't.

"Joe and Jennifer talk relationship secrets"? If they are talking about them, they are not secrets.

This is sort of off topic but has anyone seen the incredible floor plans drawn by an artist of the Sterling Cooper office spaces. They deserve an Emmy!

He could do better. Also - what's with Hamm's team? This actor is the quintessential American male...and he gets nothing --- no movie roles...nada.

It doesn't make sense unless his publicity people are inept and/or dorky Hollywood producers are jealous of his looks and acting abilities.

Acting abilities are questionable...saw him in "The Town" and he was awful. He's quite one-note and maybe Hollywood filmmakers know that. TV's working for him so why rock the boat.

Seriously? One note? He was great in Bridesmaids. What was wrong with him in "The Town". He seemed authentic. And his Don Draper character is legendary.

Maybe he should be Travis McGee. Not quite tall enough but he has the manly thing going on.

But Seth Rogan, Jonas Hill, ADAM SANDLER...these men are stars? With career longevity? Pitt, DiCaprio and Clooney are said to be good actors...and Shia Labouf make 5 movies a year.

But Hamm is a one a note and not talented? I think he has no more and no less talent than those mentioned above. He does not have a dream team shrowding him in mystery in the case of Pitt DiCaprio and Clooney. ANd he doesn't have the mitzfah of Judd Apatow that the other three yutzes got lucky with.

Yeah, I could tell by the way he looked elsewhere as she was kissing him (when "Mad Men" won Best Drama) that they were smitten with each other. Judging by Hamm's attitude in this piece and in others discussing his relationship, the secret is that he runs the show while she makes excuses for his indifference. Btw, marriage doesn't ruin relationships; people do. I appreciate that marriage is not for everyone, but some of us actually enjoy it. Shock, horror.

I agree with your comments about marriage and I'm saying that after 53 years of marriage.

If I could die and come back in an ideal relationship, it would be these two.

Perfection!

Marriage ruins very good relationships...it is a fact.

I think they have a couple things going for them:

1. Obviously, not being married.
2. Just speculation here, but in addition to not being married they probably aren't "exclusive." They probably have an understanding- so there is no betrayal.

I agree, but if they have "don't ask, don't tell," married people have that too, and they break vows when they exercise it.

Jon and Jen seem to have gotten it right, whatever they do.

What do you women do with these guys who think that the scratchy scruff is attractive. I've got such sensitive skin that even mugging next to one of them leaves me with a red rash and sore! They'd have to shave before they kissed me :P

"We have no secrets," Jennifer said. "There's no secrets."

I would love to have seen Jon Hamm's face when she said that.
