Christina Ricci Covers Manhattan Magazine: Ricci Says 'Pan Am' Is Different From 'Mad Men'

There are a lot of reasons to be excited for fall's new TV lineup. But for those who have a serious case of nostalgia are most curious about the arrival of ABC's "Pan Am."

The show follows the lives of four, heavily-stylized stewardesses during air travel's most glamorous days.

The "Pan Am" star, Christina Ricci, covers Manhattan Magazine to clear up any confusion between her show and the other 1960s period drama.

"It's a great comparison to get; Mad Men is a great show and I'm a huge fan. But that does focus more on a man's experience of that time period and this is much more about these women. These were really women who were taking control of their lives and living in a very feminist kind of way. They weren’t the average women."

I hope this show flops, no offense to Ricci. Terrible concept.

Has she ever watched Mad Men? I'd say that the roles of women are far more important than those of the men.

I wouldn't say far more important, but AS important, yes. How can she say she's a huge fan and diss Peggy? :)

I think she HAS to try to make it completely seem coincidental that everyone sees the ads for this and thinks "Mad Men clone."

Christina's poor back is gonna break from trying to carry this show all by herself. I personally think this show will be a flop. It looks cheap and cliche.

as we watch it all go down the toilet, it is not a surprise that we might long for a simpler time in American life.

There's plenty of room for another show set in this time period, and I think Pan Am is a great concept. Let's hope they don't screw it up.

Interesting article - how could anyone compare the two? Other than time period - late 50s early 60s they have nothing in common. It's like saying Bones and NCIS are comparable because they both take place in present day and carry the sounds. dialog and background elements of today's though processes.
