Fight Club Videos From Colorado High Schools Hitting YouTube

Fight Clubs Hit Colorado High Schools Harder Than Expected

A 9Wants To Know Investigation into YouTube videos of Thornton High School students fighting hit harder than expected Monday after 9News uncovered similar fighting clips from Cherry Creek, Douglas County, Jefferson County, and Denver Public Schools.

Many of the videos appear to have been recorded on cell phones and uploaded to YouTube under the real names of students involved, and are frequently posted on specific 'channels.' One YouTube video from Dakota Ridge High School has upwards of 8,000 views.

After the initial 9News investigation, many of the videos were deleted.

In a 2006 USA Today piece on the national youth fight club phenomenon, deputy police chief James Hawthorne concluded "this is an indictment of us as a society. It's not a race issue or a class issue. It's a kids issue."

In 2008, Boulder's Fairview High School uncovered an after-school "fight club" that regularly drew as many as 60 spectators.
