Evening Newscasts All See Ratings Growth For The First Time Since 2002

SHOCKER: Evening News Ratings GROW

The 2010-2011 season just wrapped up and the results for evening newscasts are good.

For the first time in nine years, all three major networks saw increases in viewership for their evening newscasts. That defies all the trends for the evening newscasts, which have only seen their audiences slide inexorably over the last decade.

"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" saw the biggest jump since the 2009-2010 season with a 3.3% increase, while "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" and "CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley" were both up by 2.7%.

Both NBC and CBS also saw boosts in the all-important 25-54 demographic. "Nightly News" was up by 1.4% and "Evening News" was up by 1.7%, while "World News" was steady.

There were indications that the networks were seeing higher ratings as early as June, when Scott Pelley became anchor of "CBS Evening News."
