Harlem Scaffold Collapses On City Bus And Injures 17, Including Police

Building scaffolding on West 125th Street in Harlem collapsed onto a city bus Tuesday morning, injuring 17 people, including two police officers.

The 17 injured were rushed to St. Lukes hospital with minor injuries.

The Times spoke with a reporter for Columbia University Journalism program's The New York World, Sasha Chavkin, who was on the Bx15 bus:

We pulled into the stop and I heard a falling sound of something collapsing toward the back, and the back of the bus filled up with smoke. People were running from the back and screaming. After about a minute the bus driver let everyone off the bus. I talked to a kid in the back who said he thought he was going to die. He said rubble had fallen through the windows of the bus.

Earlier this month, a complaint was made describing falling bricks from the building. The building was inspected with no reported violations.
