Fall TV Ratings: 'New Girl' Gets Big Ratings, 'Glee' Ratings Plummet

Mixed Results For Fox: New Show Gets Big Ratings, 'Glee' Plummets

The folks at Fox must be ecstatic with one of their newest sitcoms.

The series "New Girl" was the highest-rated prime time show on Tuesday night, drawing an impressive 10.1 million total viewers and a 4.7 score in the advertising-friendly 18-49 demographic.

That means "New Girl" even outperformed its lead-in: the season premiere of the smash hit "Glee." "Glee," which drew 8.9 million total viewers, was down 32% from its season premiere last fall.

Deadline noted that "New Girl" bested the series premiere of "Modern Family," which is currently the highest-rated comedy on TV, and was Fox's biggest series premiere since "The Bernie Mac Show"

The new sitcom stars Zooey Deschanel as an adorable dorky girl who moves in with three guys after her boyfriend cheats on her. The ratings may have been helped by decent reviews, and the pilot's early release online earlier this month. It is one of three new sitcoms about single women this fall.
