What’s Your Motivation For Getting A Good Night’s Sleep?

By now, most of us know the laundry list of health advantages that come from a solid eight hours of shuteye -- regular, good-quality sleep can improve memory, increase longevity, maintain weight and decrease anxiety, along with a whole slew of other benefits.

But on top of all that, what's your personal motivation for getting to sleep? You know, that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that pushes you on to say no to answering one more email or to staying out an hour later with friends?

As part of The Great Wake Up Challenge, the AOL Huffington Post Media Group partnered up with Lark to help a team of staffers improve their sleep over the course of eight weeks. They got real about their relationships with sleep, and came up with real solutions to get on a better track, with the help of Lark's silent "un-alarm" clock and coaching program.

In one of The Lark Team's blogs during the process, they asked readers to find their personal motivation for sleep -- it could be playing a better golf game the next day, being more alert at work or simply feeling less reactive to life's little annoyances.

And so now that The Great Wake Up Program has shut its eyes, so to speak, we asked readers to open up about their motivations for making sleep a prioirity, in exchange for a chance to be one of five winners to receive a Lark wristband and coaching (winners to be announced soon).

Turns out, in addition to the obvious health benefits, people really do have their highly individual motivations for sleeping soundly ("Repair and rejuvenate! Take a break from this life and slip into my dreamworld," one reader wrote in the comments. "My motivation for sleep is to let my brain 'collect its thoughts' so I can enjoy the new memories, experiences and knowledge, and so I can create," another one explained).
