Erin Joynt, Mom Who Was Run Over By Lifeguard Truck, Survives But Still Recovering

Mom Survives Horrific Beach Accident

A mom of two appeared on the "Today" show, this morning, after having survived a horrific accident in Daytona Beach, FL in August. Erin Joynt, 33, was sunbathing when a beach patrol pickup truck veered out of the designated vehicle lane and struck her in the head and back while making a U-turn. Her 8-year-old daughter, Hannah, watched in horror.

"I thought we were going to lose her forever," Hannah tells the "Today" show. "I was scared to death." The protective big sister turned her younger brother around so he wouldn't see what was going on.

Joynt was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a fractured skull, broken ribs, collapsed lung, memory loss and the left side of her face paralyzed. Today, she is almost fully recovered. She hopes the paralysis is only temporary, but mostly, she is thankful to be alive. "You go through life and you don't think that day is going to be your last and just thinking about my kids that day, I could have left them," she tells "Today."
