Kara Jackson, 12 Year-Old Girl, Finds A Bear In Her Home

WATCH: There's A Bear In My House!

Think of this as Goldilocks in reverse.

12 year-old Kara Jackson was home alone in Forest Falls yesterday evening when a bear began clawing its way into the kitchen. Jackson told CBS Los Angeles, "when I saw him, I clapped as loud as I could and ran upstairs." She then called her father, Cole Jackson, who in turn called the Sheriff's Department.

The bear was just a yearling, reports KTLA, but he was still huge at 150 pounds. After rooting around the kitchen for a few minutes, he left the home peacefully. Cole Jackson joked to KTLA that Kara was so calm, "she was in our bedroom putting on nail polish," when the sheriff arrived. The bear was later found in the backyard (and up a tree!) but he eventually wandered away.

The Jackson are proud of their daughter for being so level-headed, and Cole emphasized to KTLA that he did not want the animal killed for wandering around the neighborhood. With remarkable maturity, Kara herself notes to CBS that "[the bears] were here first; we weren't. So they obviously will invade your space."

In this CBS Los Angeles interview, the Jackson family describes how often the bear has shown up on their property.

Watch KTLA's interview with Kara Jackson below about her "close encounter."
