Kelly Thomas Death: Four Other Officers To Remain On Leave

09/21/11 07:55 PM ET   AP

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Four officers who have not been charged in the killing of a 37-year-old mentally ill homeless man will remain on paid leave from the Fullerton Police Department pending two other investigations.

Chief Kevin Hamilton said Wednesday the four officers would remain on leave as the FBI conducts a civil rights investigation and the Police Department does an internal probe.

Two of their colleagues, Officer Manuel Ramos and Cpl. Jay Cicinelli, were charged Wednesday in the death of Kelly Thomas after his violent arrest.

Don't blame the POBR for this. It is a very necessary civil service collection of rights to protect officers from the many false internal affairs complaints that are generated on a yearly basis.

"Paid Leave" for witnessing a man being beaten to death by one of their own and not doing a damn thing about it except threatening the citizens that were trying to stop it. They're getting paid and not having to work. More like a reward than a punishment.

With regard to the other officers. Keep in mind that they responded to a call of an officer needing immediate assistance. They had no idea if an officer was being savagely beaten or the other way around. Their actions should be looked at individually and separate from those that were shown to have used criminally excessive force.

Except that when they got there they could have obviously seen that Kelly was detained and still being beat on. Also, when Kelly was rendered unconcious they should have stepped on and made Ramos stop. But instead, they decided to just watch. In my opinion, what they did was just as bad.

If they laid one hand on this poor man they should be charged as an accessory. If they stood by and watched, they should be charged with aiding and abetting. At least deriliction of duty. But to have NO charges at this time, waiting for the independent committee and the Justice Dept investigations, is just a hedge against the protestors. Fullerton City Council members are hoping the ACTING Captain will blunt the impact of having these animals patrolling the streets. But until all the "officers" involved in this mu

Their actions don't meet the criteria of an accessory to murder since they did not assist someone intending to murder. Even if they stood by and watched, they would not be guilty of a crime since that isn't illegal.

I don't think that they will ever work in law enforcement again. But that is due to how they covered-up the incident.

You are wrong. Look up "misprision." They are guilty of it.

They were at a minimum accessories to a felony assault & battery which resulted in a death. That gets you accessory to murder.
12:32 PM on 09/22/2011
The other 4 officers are an accessory to murder...even though they wont be charged..

lets say someone (a citizen) goes and beats someone to death in front of 4 other people, while the other 4 people do nothing to stop it or report it, or don't attempt to call police or anyting else...guess what, they are guilty of a crime too...

Why are police officers any different?

Half the Police Officers want to truely serve the public, the other half are either just looking for a pension at the end of 20 yrs or worse, bullies looking to hide behind a badge. Guess which group these six A$$wipes came from ???

There are much easier ways to earn a good pension than becoming a police officer.
