Bill O'Reilly hit back at his beloved frenemy Jon Stewart on his Thursday show, responding to Stewart's latest round of mockery.
Stewart devoted part of a segment on Wednesday to lampooning O'Reilly's now-infamous threat to quit his show if his taxes are raised too much.
In response, O'Reilly called Stewart "a man dedicated to mocking the hand that feeds him," and challenged the "Daily Show" host's derision regarding a Republican congressman's complaint about his taxes. The congressman owns a series of Subway stores, and said taxes could discourage him from opening more. Stewart pointedly wondered about the need for more Subways in the world.
O'Reilly said a man wouldn't need Subway if he was a "sushi-eating, latte-drinking New Yorker," before facetiously taking this description of Stewart back. He then turned to Stewart's mockery of his anti-tax stance, saying that he was standing up for "Americans with common sense" who have concluded that "the liberal tenet of taxing the rich and spending like Arab sheiks may not be the solution to fixing a moribund economy." O'Reilly deployed a series of people -- from Bill Clinton to, somewhat randomly, Ron Howard -- to make his point.
With all of this back-and-forth, it seems like the time is right for another one of O'Reilly and Stewart's patented chats. Wait, what's that you say? O'Reilly's making his eighth appearance on "The Daily Show" next Wednesday? Well, we'll certainly be watching.
