Catherine Kieu Becker Pleads Not Guilty In Penis Slicing

WESTMINSTER, Calif. -- A California woman has pleaded not guilty to cutting off her estranged husband's penis and running it through a garbage disposal.

Catherine Kieu entered the plea in Orange County Superior Court Friday to charges of torture and aggravated mayhem with sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury and use of a knife.

If convicted of all counts, she could face life in prison without parole. She's being held on $1 million bail.

Authorities say Kieu spiked her 60-year-old husband's tofu dinner on July 11, then tied his hands and feet to the bed after he went to lie down. Authorities say Kieu cut off his penis as he woke.

Kieu's husband had filed for divorce in May after 16 months of marriage.

I can't believe she's facing life--but then, current US laws have these elastic sentences a la "between 1 month and 150 years" for virtually every offense under the sun. She'll get a slap on the wrist sentence of 5 years and be out in 3 years. Women ALWAYS get lesser sentences for the same crime than men. No matter what they are always portrayed as a victim.

Excuses are always made for women when they commit violent acts. Oh she has mental problems, Oh she was on drugs, Oh she was abused, Oh she has severe PMS, Oh she was depressed from her divorce, and on and on.

NO excuses are made for Men when the commit violent crimes, they are always portrayed as brutal vicious animals.

No one deserves to be mutilated. This article does not say he cheated on her. Even if he did, it does not give her the right to do what she did. We don't know why he agreed to have dinner with her. Maybe she said she wanted to work things out or to discuss some things. My friend's ex-husband goes to her house. Just because a couple is divorcing or has been divorced doesn't mean they can't be civil to each other.
