Jay Carney Schools White House Reporters

Jay Carney never lets the reporters he briefs each day forget that not so long ago, he was one of them.

Whether he's sidestepping a request to predict what can pass the House ("Well, I hung up my reporter cleats"), shutting down a line of questioning he finds wrongheaded ("A little reporting on everybody's part would be efficacious") or doling out an unwelcome decision on access ("I used to be where you are, and I used to ask the questions"), the White House press secretary often cites his journalistic past in dealing with an unruly press corps.
