Patti Stanger To New York Women: 'Dumb It Down'

First Posted: 09/23/11 03:17 PM ET   Updated: 11/23/11 05:12 AM ET

Outspoken "Millionaire Matchmaker" Patti Stanger returns to her Thursday night spot on Bravo and Cupid's cohort is dishing out some pretty blunt dating advice -- but we're hardly surprised. So what are Stanger's words of wisdom for all of the single metropolitan ladies out there?

"Women are smart in business and dumb in love," Stanger told me and the hosts of "New York Live" regarding New York's single gals. "They won't date outside their zip code, let alone outside the city. They are city snobs. Real men that are making money in this economy are buying homes in short sales and foreclosures out in the suburbs, getting their homestead set up for their families, and [women say] 'I won't go to Connecticut.' This is where the men are."

Stanger argues that ladies in L.A. are just the opposite, "dumb in business and smart in love. They know how to land a millionaire."

So what's the takeaway, New Yorkers? Don't be too smart!

"[Men] like [smart women] after marriage. They don't like them before they are married. You got to dumb it down a little because men are not that bright."

Oh Patti, you're not that bright, giving crazy advice like that to young girls.

What a cunty article. I hate relationships and the idea of having children makes me want to kill myself. Why are some people so desperate to not be alone? I love never having to do what someone else wants and doing what I want, any time I want. I look down at the people who get married as soon as they finish high school/college, they haven't a clue who they are yet and are going to give up those years of self understanding to conform to what they think is expected of them.

Funny how women want to be so independent etc, but still they can't wait to get married. And a big part of the reason is because other women look down at them and make $hitty comments if they're single, as if it means you can't catch a man so you're a loser. Aside from a few comments and money, what real reason is there for a woman to be married?
I don't trust any woman who pushes to get married. There's an agenda there, sometimes benign, but usually financially devastating to the man. Women have little to lose if it goes south, if anything the avg would be a gain. They get the baby they so selfishly wanted, and the guy has to pay for it.

women are more likely to fall into poverty after a divorce than a man

And you act like kids are easy especially as a single parent

Some of us want to get married because we think our lives are more compelte with someone to share it with (some men even think so, shocker!) . And some of us don't even want children.

What's the chip on your shoulder about?
05:30 PM on 09/27/2011
My chip is seeing so many friends and coworkers get burned.
Why do you need a legal document to share your life and be more complete? There's only one reason; $$. You can just tell all those snooty women that you are married. Nobody is going to check. The vast majority of men would prefer to live together and not be bound by that document.
As for kids; it's the woman who wanted them. Men know what's going to happen, that's why they don't. Women just want a baby and many will do whatever it takes.
Some women don't even hide it. I overheard the "advice" of one woman; "Just get a baby out of him and dump his ass" Just great, then the guy has to pay thru the nose for 18 years! How is that ok? Dating women is a minefield! I've heard 'Oh, I'm sterile" or "I can't get pregnant because of such n such" Guess what, they get pregnant. Mistake or lie?
For the few women who don't want kids, there are an equal number of men who do. Both being the minority.
The ideal relationship per men: Live together and never have children.
Ideal for women: Get married, pump out kids.
Just make it fair is all I ask. If the man doesn't want kids then he should not have to pay if she decides she does.

Isn't she actually saying women should be more open to commute-dating and not be location snobs?

Or don't dumb it down, but certainly save the chit chat for your girlfriends. Men just don't want to hear it, not after we've had sex with you anyways.

This woman is God's gift to rich bachelors - who want to stay rich and bachelors.

I am not sure she was necessarily talking about YOUNG GIRLS. Considering most women want to get married in their late 20's to mid 30's. I actually do agree with her. I've seen it, over and over again. Men are much more simple, and we tend to over complicate everything. We're detailed oriented, save that for after getting married. Meanwhile, enjoy courtship (it still does exist) and give them a little of what they want, without losing yourself. It's possible, any smart woman can do this.

Smart people are often not particularly well liked. I think when God handed out intellectual ability, he reduced social charisma accordingly.
And if smart men have it hard, smart women are even worse off. I can assure you many smart women have learned the hard way to dumb it down in social situations.

Trying to revive the '50's eh? Anyone with a fully functioning brain is an ASSET anytime, anyplace for any reason. As a so-called 'smart woman', I know that playing those kind of stupid games only leads to disaster down the line when you get sick of maintaining that facade to hide your true intellect. Think about it.

Nerd. Geek. Bookworm. Egghead. - these are just some of the labels applied to smart people. I truly believe that many smart women hide their intelligence to gain social currency. I'm not saying its right, I'm just saying that many smart women do it.

Please tell me she's kidding. Dumb it down? Oh, hell no! She pretty much just said "Don't be yourself." If you have to be fake, it isn't worth it.

"Real men that are making money in this economy are buying homes in short sales and foreclosures out in the suburbs, getting their homestead set up for their families, and [women say] 'I won't go to Connecticut.' This is where the men are.'"

Maybe the reason the "real" men (as opposed to fake men?) are in Connecticut is because they KNOW the NY women won't bother going to Connecticut. Did you ever stop to consider that?
