Treasure Island Music Festival Night Shows Announced (PHOTOS)

One of the coolest things about the annual Treasure Island Music Festival is all the great live music that happens before the festival even starts and after the giant stages in the middle of the bay have gone dark.

For the past few years, the organizers of the weekend-long live music extravaganza have put on evening shows in nightclubs all around the Bay Area giving people, for whom 11 hours of non-stop rocking is insufficient, further chance to party.

The full schedule for this year's series of night show was announced earlier this week, and it includes opportunities to check out bands playing the festival in more intimate environments and others who aren’t even playing the festival at all.

Check out these evening shows (schedule continues below):

The first show in the series is also the outlier--not only does it not take place the same week as the rest, it's also the only one not in a traditional venue. A part of the same weekly Cal Academy Nightlife series that recently hosted lo-fi indie darling Best Coast, Lekman's performs amidst the stuffed gazelles and albino alligators of San Francisco's premiere science museum. It's an ideal venue for the Swedish indie-pop savant, whose wry wit and heart-on-his-sleeve tunefulness inspire the same sense of wonder as an 87-foot blue whale skeleton suspended just above your head.
