The New York Times:

They were once among President Obama’s most loyal supporters and a potent symbol of his political brand: voters of moderate means who dug deep for the candidate and his message of hope and change, sending him $10 or $25 or $50 every few weeks or months.

I've been saying as much for a long time that it's the small donors who contributed greatly to Obama's campaign for the presidency the first time around who would not be enthusiastic at all about contributing again and Obama has no one to blame but himself. Young people especially are turned off.  Even here in California while Obama is still ahead in the polls, his numbers have dropped. California!  Read More...

Who cares! Big business never left his side. "Warrior for the middle class." Pfff, what a joke this guys is. I can't believe people are still supporting him after been thrown under the bus time and time again. Primary anyone?

I do wish that people would put their faith in GOD, where it belongs, not in human politicians of any stripe. ALL of them are mortal and fallible. The number one goal of any politician is to get elected. I have voted in every election and keep this in mind every time I vote. Even when politicians do get something done, the process is cumbersome and slower than cold molasses. I also wish more people would read the U.S. Constitution and find out how this thing REALLY works. Many voters keep running back and forth between political parties, looking for some "miracle" man who is going to solve all their problems. Such an entity does not exist, never has, and never will. Yes, I'm a regular voter, but I try to stay gounded in reality no matter how much I might like a particular candidate.

Part 2:
Regarding the Tea Party/GOP and some of those "dissapointed in Obama"

They hijacked the reasonable and confused , sold the franchise to the Heritage foundation a fake grassroot marketing clan and the Tea Party was born officially.

Radicals, evangelicals and wealthy social conservative folks who just think our nation has become to free and by allowing the nation to vote in a black man, 1/2 white, but to many, this is unacceptable and unAmerican, even his name scares them.

Obama is like a trout swimming up stream, its all swift currents, difficulty and in the end he might just end metaphorically dying on the banks of the river, but he did his part and fought the currents, the GOP /Tea Party folks just keep adding dams, shallow water, calling all their buddies to fish in the river as he swims by, they just want to catch him, before another generation of folks who believe in change can be spawned.

They just want to "break" him. and break our nation if they must to get him.
Fine , be dissapointed, but look at the long term and the all out assault by folks who hate our government from within our own political system. (the new red-coats?)

"Healthcare bill will be his waterloo!"

"the number one priority will be defeating Obama!"

They have not wavered, they have not missed a step. But the funny thing is people will fall for their games and let a Perry, Bachman or Romney win.

How can anyone predict 2012 now? The fighting is very similar to Bush hating derangement syndrome. The potus is certainly up for the fight, he constantly campaigns and is popular with the folks. A weak spot is seen in his own party's "hiding" from being an Obama supporter out in the open. Obama tried to get "cover" for their votes on health care; however in 2010, it was not good enough.

Hmmm, hypocrite? Yes you are. A died in the wool Bush Bashing card carrying hypocrite. The Dems did it all to Bush.

If potus comes on to the public promising "openness" and no lobbyists, and, then has to force feed ACA to his own party thru bribes and threats to get votes when he had 100% control over Congress
I do not like him. Especially when the big insurance lobby controlled much of the secret dealing that even Dem leaders never even suspected.

When potus promises to bankrupt a business segment that is actually the USA "ace in the hole" when it comes to competing in world markets. USA was always able to provide reliable and large amounts of electricity to large manufacturing concerns. Now , by killing drilling and mining many many jobs are lost , and, USA has lost another "ace in the hole". Go figure.

Playing favorites in the Boeing decision re: relocating to SC is pure campaign fund favoritism.

Usurping lender's rights in GM and Chrysler bailouts also another reason to see why businesses do not want to hire one person or invest one penneyin the USA.

When you and O "move on" the USA economy will zoom too amazing heights. Tax revenue will be available to handle all liberal safety net programs, and, then some.

Part 1:

For those of you who are "giving up on Obama", I ask yet another question:
WHO would have done a better job against the full on assault of the far right and the attempted coup of this nation?

Hillary would have been too easy a target for the far right, as she would be defending herself against the record of Bill Clinton. (which by liberal standards was good, but far right was evil personafied) She would have brought too much baggage, and the far right was counting on Hillary, Obama was a complete left-feild end around and the GOP had to bring in their dirty players.

They couldn't allow the GOP brand to be connected to the hateful and primarily biased and non-white freindly base that truely holds the GOP up, so enter the hype spewed by the beltway media and the FOX zombie generator.

For all the complaints I have read about Obama and his "failings", I ask this question.
If Obama has moved too far right for many of you, how would YOU have drawn the nation back towards the center, working with the GOP/Tea Party folks, without losing the folks who voted for you? And are you going to protest his being too far right , by voting for a candidate even further right?? (all the GOP/Tea Party folks are extremely far right.)

Rather then get caught up in the FOX zombie narrative, try looking at the fact we cound be further right, with even less than we have now, and the GOP counted on Obama breaking, and the American people to abandon him by now.
They raise the hate levels and just say no, because they know he is very capable and NOT like they would like to portray him in their right wing and the beltway media, who seem to be clueless to the voice of the regular folks, and refuse to aknowledge Obama's numerous victories for the American people.
Which is partly also Obama's fault as he never seems to "blow his own horn enough".....
Most Americans would like to see a shift to the left of center or at the very least, LESS RIGHT.
for a generation we have been forced further right, it takes time to correct that huge misdirection of this nation. (bye-bye radicalized extremists in 2012)

To all proud progressives Liberals, democrates, free thinkers, Gays, Blacks, Whites,Asian,Transgendered,ALL Religions, that support President Obama. All you have to say to all those Tea bagging, Libitarian,Republican, Fox news watching individuals, say these simple words. OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.Then pull out the popcorn.

Whaaaat? The way you did when Bush was president? People are so hypocritcal (not you personally). Now suddenly it's "respect the President" (which I do, I just don't agree with him); "respect the office"," he's 'my' president", and on and on. These are the same people who called President Bush every name but a child of God; he was president-select; stupid, racist (well at least Kanye was man enough to admit that he really didn't think that was true and apologized), they clamoured to "stay out the Bushes" and of course whined incessantly that, "He's Not My President". And now all we hear are calls for respect? As for me, my respect is given, but I will never support Obama, and I suspect that after his next four years, a great many people will wish they hadn't either.

Obama is smart enough to know he needs the voice of the people to support him. The natuion is JUST NOW finally realizing the huge do-nothing job performances of the far right and the crazy Tea Party folks, and just now starting to have a voice that is visible on the main stream media ciruits. The beltway reporting is clueless to the voice of the ACTUAL American people, they just hear and follow the generated noise form their own circle of friends and close insiders, who just speak the stuff of their lobbyists.
If they really cared about fixing this nation in the beltway, they would heve been covering the folks protesting on wall street, and the masses who still protest in other states against the ignorance and economic terrorism of the right wing puppets.
As they seemed to be saying what the progressives and the liberals have been saying for Obama's entire term.

A cautionary tale, perhaps, for the next Centrist in Lib's clothing who thinks we won't notice - or remember.

Why is it so hard - even for those on the Left - to believe that Progressives are serious, and have a point of view (if allowed the light of day) shared by most reasonable Americans? Do we have to act out like the Right with tri-corner hats and guns at political rallys to get a voice?

I truly hope Obama loses. AND that the cause points directly to the lack of Progressive support.

And before someone reacts in horror at the suggestion. Yes, I know what the Republicans have in store for us. Tough. That's the point. Americans learn best/only the hard way, and the electorate - Left, Center, and Right - all need to actually experience Conservative America. (Apparently, 12 years of Bush era governance wasn't enough.)

Is it gonna hurt? You bet. But not nearly as much as where we're headed.

Where are we headed that's worst than a conservative president (that potentially has a GOP House and Senate)? You want to throw out the good for this utopian idea of pure progressivism that doesn't exist. The Democratic party (unlike the GOP) is a coalition of White, Black, Hispanic, Je-wish, Chri-stian, non-Ch-ristian, GLBT, moderate, progressive, pragmatic to more conservative. That's how they won in 08 by pulling these groups together. The beauty of the Democratic party is that we don't all think alike. We maybe mostly progressive but we're not all progressives. Your disappointment with Barack is at least partly your own fault because you had false expectations to begin with.
12:13 PM on 09/27/2011
Actually, the same can be said of the GOP, there are whites (the majority as they are with the Dems), black, hispanic, Jewish, Christian, non-Chrisitan, gays, moderates and pragmatics (huh?). They don't think alike either...just witness the number of candidates with diferent opinions. What unifiies them is they don't want to suffer another four years of Obama. What unifies Dems is they enjoy the pain and want another four years of it.
09:33 AM on 09/26/2011

Well with the help of the so called liberal medias content barrage of the things that he hasn't done vs. his accomplishments what would one expect? Since according to all polls he was not expected to win, and now they are trying to ensure that it does not happen again with negative polling and black journalism. Even I have been swayed by this nonsense, but look at the facts what President has done as much in so little time? He has tried to be President of all the people even to the end of his term and maybe at the cost of his re-election. What we have to consider as well As The President is the WE the people elected him not the racist Republicans that want to put him out of office and the crony Media that works for them. He must stay on the road and in the homes and hearts of the people, don't give up on him. If you do the alternatives are fraudulent nominal Christians who's deception will eventually bring about a Fascist Theocratic Totalitarian government with a Plutocratic stratified workforce of the haves and the have not.

Obama has been an extremely dissapointing President even for the Liberals. Rather than facing that reality and having a better Dem run against him, they are now trying to tell themselves and you how much things would be worse if a Repub were elected. Don't buy a word of it. That was the same strategy they used after Carter's failed term. I remember Libs telling me that Regan was going to start a nucler war; and they actually beleived it. Well it didn't happen and the reality was that Reagan cleaned up the Dems mess and gave our country a huge economic expansion. However, Libs can't even deal with that reality but the numbers bear out those facts. So here we are with histroy repeating itself. Once again, a Liberal President has taken the country to the brink of economic destruction and the only things Libs have to sell is Fear. I'm not buying a word of it and you shouldn't either if you want to live in a free and prosperous country.

Don't speak for me, I have not found him to be disappointing, he has made a few mistakes but I never expected perfection and he has had to fight against idiotic personal attacks that obsessed the country and distracted everyone from critical issues.. I guess it all depends on your vision for America, either a country for the People, with opportunities for anyone willing to work to get ahead, a country that re-invests it's resources into the economy, that protects its people. Or a country that protects the richest most powerful, is controlled by those with the money and is based on greed, where politicians protect the interests of the ones who pay them the most, not the ones who elected them into office, a country where there are no regulations to protect us from contaminated food, air, soil or water, where money is invested in off shore accounts and companies in other countries. where the poor fight to survive and millions suffer with no way out of their poverty. Bush took us to the brink of economic collapse, Obama kept us from going over the edge.

Obama expanded Bush's unconstitional faith based inititiative and reneged on his promise to end discrimination in hiring based on religion from any church in the program; he reneged on his promise to close GITMO; he reneged on his promise to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; he reneged on his promise to enact single payor healthcare; he failed to overturn the "Patriot Act" and has broadened the scope of civil liberties violations; he caved to the GOP on extending the Bush tax cuts for the super-rich. Now he wants progressives to campaign for him, donate money and vote for him again? Is he for real?
