D.J. Qualls Tweets: Beaten By Vancouver Police For No Reason

While shooting the CW's "Supernatural" last Friday, D.J. Qualls was severely beaten by Vancouver police.

The "Road Trip" star took to his twitter to alert fans and explain his shock and confusion.

Qualls also gave a full account of the scene, which began when he walked out of a cafe and witnessed "a dude punch a girl." He told the authorities what he had seen but he was not greeted with thanks.

"He said if I didnt get out of there, [he'd] arrest me, I asked why and he tackled me, busted my face and handcuffed me," Qualls said.

He continued, "Was not arrested b/c was innocent. I was handcuffed and bleeding while the cop kept saying to me, 'you think youre f-cking better than me? … Repeatedly asked 4 his badge number and he said if I didnt shut up, Id be taken in. Finally got a card as I was taken to hospital."

When admitted to the ER, Qualls was bloodied and received stitches in his chin.

"I cannot understand it," he tweeted. "I'm sitting here, with a busted face in total shock. I literally did nothing wrong."

The actor is demanding compensation for the brutal treatment, including full reimbursement for his hospital bills, which totaled to $800. He is also filing a formal complaint with the Vancouver Police Department and urged his fans to retweet his story.

A police rep told the Vancouver Sun that they've already begun an investigation.

Canadacare can mean waiting six months for a mammo, then another for the results. Free don't mean better. As for D.J. Qualls, little guys often have something to prove, so maybe there's another side to this story that's not slanted in his favor. If not, shame on the Ca. Police.

Depends on the province. In BC, it's a few weeks, results mailed in a week.
Privatised is certainly not better--I lived in the US and really, even the best plan can mean that if you get sick they cancel. For no reason.

I lived in the states too... I love the US for many reasons, but I am grateful for the healthy system we have in Canada.

6 months for a mammogram!? I'm not of age for those yet but I've only waited a week or two ultrasounds, and then a week for the results... I'm in BC, too. And with tests, it depends on how serious the condition is... Once they thought I had a lump on my liver (?!!) and I didn't need an appointment, I didn't even SIT DOWN when I went in for that ultrasound.

It's free if you're a Canadian... Why would you call what we have "Obamacare"? It's existed long before Obama was president and has nothing to do with him...

Could I please get an upgrade to a macro-bio?

From everything I've heard, your system is much, much better than "Obamacare" will be. I was disappointed that Obama didn't fight for a system similar to yours, whether he was able to get it or not.

It was recorded. Check out TMZ.

It shows DJ yelling at an officer who is calmly explaining the reason for DJ's arrest.

Apparently, alcohol was involved.

The people filming are laughing at DJ.

I saw it. He is sitting on the ground after his arrest and the guys filming (saying their are" going to make money off this") shout questions. He answers from across the street, sitting on the ground after getting hit by the officer and thrown down.
The people laughing are making fun of him, like the mean-spirited people they are and showing a complete lack of humanity.
You think it's funny?
Sicknasty.

"The 'Road Trip' star took to his twitter to alert fans and explain his shock and confusion."
How about mentioning his current show, "Memphis Beat," instead of a movie he was in 11 years ago?

given how these people act while on location, I have a sneaking suspicion that Mr. Qualls story is pretty lopsided.

The New Guy is one of my favorite movies. He should also be suing because his injuries may prevent him from getting acting jobs. There is lose of income involved here too.

I usually take the cops side, even in this case all the facts may not be known. However when the cop screws up and hurts someone bad, the injured party should be well compansated and the cop HE or SHE should be let go... Just like in the real world.

When a person assaults another person, they are usually arrested.... not just 'let go.'
03:20 AM on 09/29/2011
idk what "Real World" ure speaking off but cops only get let go or fired or the department compinsates 2 someones injury if you can prove your side or its litterally taped all else is there word agianst the one who got beat.

$800 in medical bills in Canada? That's like 80,000 in the states.

You're exaggerating. It's actually more like $15,000. But that is the negotiated rate if you have insurance. No insurance? 40% more!

Whaaat? A visit to the ER.... stitches....probably some meds and a bandage..... and his costs are $800?
Our world-class medical system is so much cheaper!

Vancouver cops must be trained in NYC!

Good for Qualls to take to Twitter to demand justice. One of the advantages of an interconnected world is the ability to remedy wrongdoing.

Some people forget that. But,I hate to tell you this-- our current government is on an Americanisation trip. WHo trains Canadian TSA, police forces? Same guys that train the US ones.
Plus, Harper wants to "harmonise" our border. That is a tune I don't want to hear. You?
