Michael Moore Tries And Fails To Recall His Book From Georgia In Protest Over Troy Davis Execution

First Posted: 09/26/11 03:45 PM ET Updated: 11/26/11 05:12 AM ET

In response to the execution of Troy Davis in Georgia, controversial filmmaker and writer Michael Moore has tried - and failed - to withdraw copies of his book from the state.

He wrote on his blog that he "will ask my publisher to pull my book from every Georgia bookstore and if they won't do that I will donate every dime of every royalty my book makes in Georgia to help defeat the racists and killers who run that state."

However, he told Current TV's Countdown with Keith Olbermann that his publisher Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, "just told me that they can't. They can't recall the books. So I am going to go to the next step then. I'm going to write a big check to the Innocence Project, who have gotten hundreds of people exonerated who were sitting in prisons […] I'm also going to fund […] voter drives in Georgia - there's 600,000 African-Americans in the last election that were not registered to vote. I will get behind whatever drive there is in Georgia to register our fellow Americans who are African-Americans, so that they have a chance to have their voice heard. This has got to be stopped."

A spokesman for Georgia's governor, Nathan Deal, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “We think it’s cute that he thinks anyone in Georgia would buy his book, but if any Georgian does, I’m happy to double the royalties and buy a pack of gum for a charity of Michael Moore’s choice."

"Tries and fails to recall his book"? I thought perhaps that meant he couldn't remember what the bloody thing was about.

He wouldn't be the first author to have some trouble with that.

'Nyah nyah nyah na boo boo!"
Seriously?!

Please tell me why, in 99.9% of instances, it is a Repugnican politician that resorts to infantile, grade school, put downs and insults when they don't have a leg - morally or factually - to stand on?
Is this same infantile reaction, indicative of a failed route to full maturity, the reason so many prefer a government that tells them what to do and think, (despite their protestations to the contrary), and are more apt to resort to violence sooner?

Because they're basically petulant, poorly behaved kids? At least in terms of psychological development?

What a joke.

I don't see this anywhere on the HP. I wonder why? Could he be calling out the ownership of this site (while excluding himself, as always)?

But wait, there was this..

Tsk tsk...

I found this interesting: When someone is executed, the cause of death listed on their death certificate is "Homicide". One innocent person executed is too many. End this barbaric practice.

Someone who has been writing books as long as Moore has to know that what he called for would involve an effort and loss of income to his publisher and book distributors to remove books from hundreds of stores that work with different supply chains while the loss to him - since he already got his hefty advance - would be very small. Why is his second option - writing a check to the Innocence Project - not his first one? Why does Moore always seem to be looking to other people to pay the freight while he espouses plebian positions but lives like a patrician.

Hard to say which is dopier--Michael Moore's statement or the Georgia Governor's! Mr. Moore must really have it on good authority that the Mr. Davis was in fact innocent, because it's hard to imagine that even Michael Moore would not be in favor of executing a man who killed a police officer.

For an intelligent guy, Michael Moore sure takes the wrong side of an issue 90% of the time.

Along with many, many people Moore is opposed to the death penalty in general. Killing is wrong, no matter who is the victim.

why reward the very state he disdains. instead he should mail a copy of his ode to self-congratulations to every resident of the State.

The pants-wetting and personal attacks from the rabid end of the right just make those who aren't completely partisan want to take a second look at Moore's work to see why they are so upset by this guy. They seem to have forgotten that this kind of hysteria generally makes the public more likely to pay attention to his work.

They are afraid, and they are trolls and this is what trolls do. If they weren't afraid they wouldn't even bother reading HP as they think most of it is B.S. But they think they are doing some good here. It's not much of a different mentality than a lynch mob. Low lifers who have nothing better to do than lurk around waiting to scribble some hate speech. I'd never waste my time reading or watching anything by the Faux News types as I know I don't agree and most of what they have to say are lies. The Faux News trolls must obviously be afraid that there is something to the progressive message as they have nothing better to do, but lurk around in the dark, waiting for a headline that says, Moore or Olbermann, or better yet Obama! Then they strike with their childish, unsubstantiated diatribes. The best troll comments are the ones that have nothing to do with politics and yet they find a way somehow to slip in Obama's name and blame him for something.

Keep it up trolls, you're always good for a laugh and the best part is you only increase HP's ratings! Thanks!
