'The Chew' Premiere: Twitter Users Find Debut Hard To Swallow

First Posted: 09/26/2011 3:52 pm Updated: 11/26/2011 5:12 am

ABC's new daytime food-centric talk show, The Chew, premiered today. Between the hyperactivity and awkward pace of the food demos, to the forced conversation and stilted flow of the segments, it was clear that this was the first go-round of the show. There were an excessive amount of smiles, a general feeling that the audience had all drunk the same Kool-Aid before the show and Michael Symon recommending a microplane as if it was a newfangled modern gadget. All in all, we can see why the All My Children Fans are angry.

But hey, we'll give you the benefit of the doubt, The Chew. Perhaps your first episode was just a rocky start...after all, you can only go up from here. Twitter users however, may not be so kind.

In the real world whoever at ABC made the brilliant move to put this show on would lose their job. A cooking show what a novel idea, wait isn't there an ENTIRE network that has nothing but cooking shows on. I guess it could have been worse they could have extended the view to two hours.

I found the show very disappointing. Too many people, recipes that I don't find cheap when they require so many ingredients. For two people, it would be cheaper to eat out. Also, how many people want to eat the same thing for three days?

"The Chew" is just awful. I continue to give it a chance but it is not improving. The concept is flawed and the choice of people is worse. And it is so rude to share food with the front row and make the others watch as the cast and one small group of people dine. So very rude and so stupid.

Maybe now it will become more clear why people are jumping on the bandwagon with Occupy Wall St. The Chew supposedly saved 40% in costs over All My Children. Thanks to Brian Fronz and Anne Sweeney at Disney/ABC Televsion we're forced to swallow this poison pill which destroyed the working careers of hundreds of crew, actors and writers. The ratings never botherd to account for TIVO, DVD recorded shows but said no one was staying home to watch. Well, since most people now have to work more than one job to make ends meet, it's no wonder. I say the ABC folks will rue the day they made this horrible decision as millions of fans may never tune into ABC again or just to watch General Hospital and One Life to Live before it goes at year's end.

Its still early. I'm going to give them a chance, but they have one too many people on the panel. There are one too many Italian chefs, imo. And Dr. Oz's daughter is wasted as she hasn't told us anything her father hadn't already said. Keep the decorator guy, Carla and Mario. Ditch the other two.

As one who watched All My Children from its premiere, I will not be tuning in to the disgustingly named The Chew. The name brings to mind a nasty wad of tobacco inside some toothless guy's cancerous mouth. Yecchhh. Also, can't stand Mario Batali.

I watched some of the show but won't be watching it again,it was just too boring, turned to court show in the same time slot. I see no reason to watch ABC again after they have done such a terrible thing as taking away my favorite soap One Life To Live. Not missing anything, see all the same chefs on the cooking channel.

Horrible show. Can't believe AMC got booted for this. What a waste...

Another ABC disaster thinking they could do better than a program people loved. They do this all the time, take off great shows for crap. I hope it fails and ABC realizes they are a failing network. The show looks dumb and if you want to watch this klind of program, go to the Food Network.

I refuse to watch The Chew...what an idiotic name. Now we know why.

Bring back AMC...after 39 years, I am having withdrawal. Will never watch anything on ABC again. They are idiots there, to take something off that has stood the test of time and fan loyalty by the millions, for another cooking show, and from the sounds of it, one that is tanking fast.

The Spew is a worthless, waste of time. I'd rather watch Cameron Mathison try to act. I'd rather scrub public toilets with my toothbrush. I'd rather watch Faux News.

SCREW THE SPEW!!!

I cancelled my Tivo Season Pass on the show. I was hoping for an informative show. This is not it.

To me, cooking shows should stay with the Food or Cooking Channels, not in a major channel like ABC, it's too theme-oriented.
