Centre Pompidou Mobile Set To Launch In October

The Centre Pompidou Mobile, a travelling component of the French museum of modern and contemporary art, is set to launch in October, much to the delight of French politicians and the public alike. A dozen contemporary masterpieces will be leaving the permanent collection to join the roaming exhibition, which will stop in Chaumont (Haute-Marne), Cambrai, Boulogne sur Mer (Nord-Pas-de-Calais), Aquitaine, Le Havre and Aubagne. The inaugural show, entitled "Color" will feature the likes of Picasso, Matisse, Léger, Calder as well as an installation from contemporary artist, Olafur Eliasson.

The touring exhibition will cost approximately €400,000 for each stop and the cost will be split between the French government and the region being visited, according to La Voix Du Nord. The purpose of Centre Pompidou Mobile will be to bring the experience of a fine art museum to the public, especially those who are farther away from cultural centers, at zero cost to patrons. Centre Pompidou mobile will encourage many to encounter the modern masterpieces of art that are part of the "cultural patrimony" of France, Frédéric Mitterrand, French Minister of Culture and Communication said in a statement released by the French Ministry of Culture.

Patrick Bouchain, architect of the traveling show, created a 650 sq. meter structure resembling a sort of circus tent, oriented around a number of modular spaces. The structure is able to adapt to different locations without the need for permanent implantation or excessive fortification. The Centre Pompidou Mobile will begin its culturally-enriching journey in October in Chaumont.
