Chris Christie 2012: The Media Speculation Reaches A Fever Pitch

First Posted: 09/27/11 07:25 PM ET Updated: 11/27/11 05:12 AM ET

Despite his denials to the contrary, cable news hosts continued to speculate Tuesday about a possible presidential bid by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Jason Linkins explained the boomlet:

What drove this meme? Well, it's nothing that Chris Christie did. The Christie Boomlet existed because the Rick Perry Boomlet has faded, thanks to a bunch of debate performances in which Perry was seen to tire under the spotlights. After a third performance in which he was ineffective in his attacks on Mitt Romney and bloodied up by the second tier of candidates, Bill Kristol very quickly swapped out his "Paul Ryan 2012" button for one that read "Chris Christie 2012" and put all of his angst into a piece in the Weekly Standard titled "Yikes."

Fox News reported Monday that he wasn't running, but then ABC News later found a source saying that he was still "considering" a run.

Chris Christie, meet Union general, William T. Sherman who stated (paraphrase), "If nominated I will not run; if elected I will not serve". There is a statement which can be interpreted only one way.

After he went cross-country to say, well... NOTHING...someone should slap together a play based on the prolonged Christie tease: "The Fatman Cometh?"

"The hour's top story here on Fox...It's over for Obama! Fox has learned that the Republican Party has found its Chosen One who will bring balance to the Party. Any moment now, The Guy Who Played 'Screech' is expected to enter the race!

"More on this breaking story as it comes in...but first these words from Goldline®, Garden Weasel™, and Bose® WaveRadio™"...............

Chris ChristieCream couldn't win the nomination within the current Republican environment let alone win in the general election.

It would depend on how long the Party's girl-crush on him lasts. Realistically, he might draw votes away from both Perry and Romney.

However, I do think that the President and his team should prepare for a campaign against Willard "Reversible Μittens" Romney.

Willard fit perfectly with the New England weather when he was the Massachusetts governor: a change every few hours.

He'll be their magic cra cker for 10 seconds and then they will find something they don't like about him...and off he'll go into shame too. Oh, republicans....so much hypocrisy, so little time.

This guy will never be President. The GOP has nothing but clowns running for President, its like at the circus, I guess he could be the elephant....

Chris Christie reminds me of Huckabee. He can be entertaining and seems like a nice guy at times, but the last thing we need is a president with a nasty temper and an inclination to be rude. While I am frustrated with President Obama, I love the fact that he remains calm and polite no matter what he faces. His "none of your business" comment to a woman asking why he reduced funding for public schools was a good indication of how thin skinned he really is. Certainly it is the business of a constituent whose children to a public school, why a governor whose kids go to private school, would cut public funding. Thin skin is not an attribute for any holder of public office.

When are the CON f00ls and Media t00ls going to leave this poor man alone already????
How many times does he need to say NO???? Is it the "N" or the "O" or the mind boggling combination of those 2 letters that you folks don't get????

Christie won't run. He knows it's too late for him and he couldn't possibly survive a rigorous presidential campaign. He'd be much better off getting a part on The Biggest Loser (which would help him survive a few more years. He's a serious heart attack candidate right now.)

Look at a picture of George W. Before and after being President. Obama looks strained too. It's strenuous to be President. I don't know how healthy Christie is. Maybe he's fine. I don't know if he can handle the stress, physically.

While I do not care for his ideas, I agree with you on the basis of his morbid obesity. I think he would be in trouble medically if he ran for the presidency.

Only the political know Christie. He is virtually unknown outside of New Jersey and the Belt way. Ask a 25 year old voter from Geogia or Nebraska who Chris Chrisie is and they will say, "uh The Stay Puff Marshmello Man".

I believe Christie when he says he "is not ready and does not have the desire" to be President. I think the GOP keep pretending that he is going to run so he can get more attention and raise more money at their fundraisers.

A person who wants to run should never say he is not ready and does not have the desire. Anyone who runs has to think that he or she is the best candidate who has run or who will ever run for the office. One has to have a passion to go through what they do to reach the office. That's why anyone who runs for president has too big an ego to be trusted in that office.

At his speech last night, christie stated that he believes every child in New Jersey should receive an education, he just didn't believe it should be subsidized by taxpayers. He did not say how he thought education should be paid for.
10:17 AM on 09/28/2011
He meant every child whose parents can afford a private school.

Dear roudy:

He could have also said we should all get to vacation on Mars. Getting there is the question that is unresolved.
