Christopher Barry, Son Of Marion Barry, Spared Jail In Drug Case

Marion Barry's Son Sentenced In Marijuana, PCP Case

WASHINGTON -- The son of former District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry was sentenced on Tuesday morning after he previously pleaded guilty to drug charges, including possession of marijuana and PCP.

As The Washington Post reported before Tuesday's sentencing:

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors said they would not file additional charges and would not seek a prison sentence longer than six months. Charging guidelines for Barry’s offenses are six months to three-and-a-half years in prison.

Barry's son was arrested in May after the Metropolitan Police Department was called to his home on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Ward 8's Bellevue neighborhood. Washington City Paper reported at the time:

In the court documents, police say they arrived ... after being alerted to what sounded like a fight. When a police officer knocked on the door, a man answered but would not open the door, court records say. Police then called the fire department to have the door opened. Once inside the apartment, the officers saw blood on the floor and drugs in "plain sight," according to court records.

Christopher Barry is the only son of the former mayor and the late Effi Barry. The elder Barry, a Democrat, currently represents Ward 8 on the D.C. Council.
