Floppy Disk Drives Plays 'Imperial March' From 'Star Wars' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/29/11 05:52 PM ET Updated: 11/29/11 05:12 AM ET

What's a more glorious sound to "Star Wars" nerds than the "Imperial March"?

Two alternating floppy disk drives playing the symphony, perhaps.

Let's face it; it's not as though the ancient (?!) storage devices get much use these days. Might as well put the things to good use, right?

Silent, the technological orchestra's creator, stated that he or she put the creation together as a way to pass some time. (No kidding.)

Interested in learning how Silent did it? Visit the website for an explanation.

For some more "Star Wars"-inspired fun, watch the Jedi kittens duke it out again and again.

I just loved lugging around that 30 lb compaq portable sewing machine with the 9" screen. Everyone was amazed that you took the bottom off and it was the keyboard.

I feel old. I remember installing Doom on my top of the line PC with 8 MB of RAM...and the entire game was on floppies. "Install Disk 2..."

Then, the visceral joy after manually configuring the sound card and graphics card, and listening to the Doom theme song....the game was in 3D! The MIDI soundtrack still haunts my dreams. The faint echoes of gargles and growls in the dark. The dark, mysterious environment ready to be explored.

Yes....the most advanced game ever created (at the time). Those were the days.
