Jon Stewart Mocks Sarah Palin's Excuses For Not Running For President (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart Sarah Palin

With a little over a year until the 2012 election, now's the time for any undeclared GOP presidential hopefuls to throw their hats into the ring (as if there weren't enough contenders already). This week, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie squashed hopes that he'd be trying to win the nomination, but there's still one popular non-candidate keeping the political world guessing: Sarah Palin.

On Wednesday night's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart used Palin's latest Fox News appearance -- shortly after Christie's speculation-ending press conference -- to reevaluate just why she's not running for President. Sure, she's been driving a patriotic bus to swing states talking about how she'd change the country for the better, but according what Palin told Greta Van Susteren, she's not keen on running because the "title" would "shackle" her Maverick, "going rogue" style.

"Becoming the President would diminish your power?" Stewart said in disbelief. "It's not that you might not be able to bear the weight of the Presidency, it's that that ballpark ain't big enough to contain yo' awesomeness!"

Watch the clip below to hear the rest of Palin's reasons for sort of/possibly/maybe not running and why Stewart isn't buying the "Renegade Alaskan bird spirit" excuse (even though he isn't suggesting that she run).

I think that Palin is not running (openly) for a variety of reasons.

1) debates. She'd get her hat handed to her by any of the other candidates. Any of them, and considering the general level of quality of those candidates that speaks very poorly of her skills. Debates are her Kryptonite.

2) I think she's hoping for a VP slot again. leadership is her kryptonite.
2b) If she's in charge and it crashes she has only herself to blame. Taking responsibility is her Kryptonite.

3) Failing all that I think she's hoping to take over Rush's Mantle and flock of loyal dittoheads along with his salary.

Well she's not going to run this time I believe.I respect her however greatly. She really is extremely intelligent,is a major buisness wiz kid without a doubt,is fully aware of all things financial and economics wise. She may very well end up holding an imporatnt position in the next new admin which would not be bad at all.She is very aware of the public and is very much in touch with the people as a whole and what they go thru day to day trying to get buy

just went to the theater to see the new doc on her - she is a ruthless grifter who will eat her enemies - Another Republican bully - which is why she is loathed my Wasila residents as the film shows. Unfortunately her offspring is just as nasty poor todd finally getting away from that piranha - scottsdale's most tacky resident i'm sure. hope they dont let her park her bus on the street..ugh the nouveau riche have no class

Please put her back in her Sarah-in-the-box, who jumps out any time anyone else gets attantion, and send it to AlQaeda. Every time someone turns the handle, she can jump out and they can shoot at her. It'll keep them busy, and maybe they'll forget about us.

I wish GrifterGrannyPalin would run. Sooner or later the current crop of clowns will drop out. Then who will provide entertainment during the GeeOhPee comedy hour? Granny, we need you now!

No. Actually Running for President would make it Illegal for Sister Sarah to rake in the Cash from most of her "contributors". She's taken a page from the Newt. Ever since he got tossed out of the House of Representatives, he's been raking in tons of cash based on letting people Think he's a presidential contender.

That's the real reason Sister Sarah quit as Governor: Her income Skyrocketed once she wasn't bound by all those silly "Ethics" laws.

Actually Running for president would force her to take a huge Pay Cut.
And Ghod forbid she should Win!
It would be 4 Years before she could jump back on the gravy train!

Unless she Resigned, of course...

The media just wants Palin in the race so that Obama has a chance to win. Otherwise, anyone with a modicum of experience and business sense can beat him.

Really? You don't have one wannabe that will make this nation strong. They are hand fed by the most powerful corporations and their strings are pulled by contracts with Koch and Norquist.
Business sense? How about a sense of decency...I forgot, the Moral Majority is long gone. Sold out for profits.

I feel sorry for her a little. You could see that everything she is doing is an attempt to stay relevant. It is sad because if she were relevant, she would not have to try.

I felt sorry for her during the last election. But now look at her. She is America's political Frankenstein. Save your pity for America if she ever becomes President.

I never felt sorry for her.

I feel more sorry that Obama is our President right now. Can't get worse than him.

Why would anyone feel sorry for her? She rose to some kind of prominence from complete obscurity to make more money than most people in a lifetime. Most and I mean nearly all people in this country live an entire lifetime working for a fraction of what she gets paid only to die without having made any change in the world. I don't know what change she will end up making but I do know that she has been given an unprecedented opportunity to galvanize a large number of people. I don't need people to respond about what they think of her because that is not my point. My point is that no one should feel sorry for someone who has been given such a great opportunity. Even if she squanders the opportunity she has had, she will still have had an experience that many people would love to get.

They should play clips from all the interviews after her announcement to run with McCain as well as after they lost. She constantly would talk about how easy and quick of a decision it was for her. She was constantly trying to compare her "ability" to make quick, difficult decisions to Obama not being able to.
I understand though that she provides so much material to work with it's almost impossible to cover all of it.
