Mission Impossible Director Brad Bird Said Tom Cruise 'Ruined' Him For Anyone Else

First Posted: 09/29/11 04:34 PM ET Updated: 11/29/11 05:12 AM ET

Most recently, there were a lot of sexy ladies clawing at the chance to work with Tom Cruise.

But before you say, Huh? remember, there was a time that the actor was, across the board, really well-liked.

Sure, there are a lot of years and a lot of bizarrely inappropriate talk show appearances since the days of "Jerry Maguire," but Cruise is still a very big celeb and with a very big following.

Including director Brad Bird, who worked with Cruise on the upcoming "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol."

He told the Los Angeles Times, "He's ruined me for everyone else," says Bird, who makes his live-action directorial debut in December.

"I'm not going to understand after this point why any actor doesn't want to do all of their own stunts and hang off of a mile-high building. He truly loves the movies and the movie-making process, and he knows a ton about it but is incredibly polite and shows up on time and has done all of his homework."

See, Tom, You...complete him.

I like Tom Cruise. He always seems like a decent, unpretentious person. I realize his Scientology videos have people turned off my the intensity he demonstrated; as well as his professed beliefs. We naturally are defensive when popular figures adopt views outside the mainstream. In general, I think it's an overreaction and people are coming to their senses about the guy.

Every since the clown told Brook Shields how to handle her postpartum depression, I'm through with him. Maybe he's jealous because she's actually a woman, and not a wannabe one.

Right...men can't have any opinions on the science involving pregnancy and post-pregnancy.  It's all about "feelings"!

Tom Cruise Ruined Me....from ever saying anything bad about Tom Cruise after a bunch of scientology goons whisked me away to a re-education camp in the middle of the night.

Actors should stick to acting. Politicians should stick to politics. However, most politicians are good actors and vice versa.

Not surprising at all. When you have an actor whose career is going down down down, they will desperately do anything to stay in the spotlight.

Except he's been doing stunts, showing up on time, and been decent on set much of his career.

I love me some TC! I'm not interested in his religion and the last time I checked, he wasn't trying to sell me on it either. I live his movies, he remains great to look at, and can't wait for this version of MI to finally come out.

LOVE YOU TC! Stay strong dude!

Please do not call Teeny Tom's cult a "religion."

There is no deity in his cult except a greenback.

TC is pretty weird and I can't stand his philosophy/ religion, but his movies always tend to be very well made, enjoyable, escapist entertainment. I'm always willing to watch the latest Tom Cruise movie, at least on video.

Well, that's nice that someone has something positive to say about Tom Cruise.

It's been a while. He did set the creep bar pretty damn high! As Juliawerck has said below, the political scene, and more specifically that "Adams family" that have been debating over the past couple of months have out-creeped old Tommy big time.

I used to think Tom Cruise and his religion were very creepy until photos of Rick Perry praying and Michelle Bachmann and the rest of tea party. Compared to Cruise these are the CREEPY ones.

True, but what we are talking about here is not a definition of creepy. Everyone you have mentioned meets that criteria. It's just a matter of degree..

Praying is creepy???
03:48 PM on 10/05/2011
Yes, it is. Stating you will pray away gays, And constantly stating "I am praying very hard etc. Rick Perry. It is very creepy. That is not what the POTUS is intended for.
Pray away the bad economy????? Don't think so.
