Deer Creek Middle School Shooting Trial Enters Deliberations

GOLDEN, Colo. — Jurors in the trial of a man charged with wounding two students outside a Colorado middle school have started their deliberations.

Eastwood has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to 15 charges, including attempted first-degree murder, in the shooting at Deer Creek Middle School last year. The school is just miles from Columbine High School, the site of one of the nation's deadliest school shootings.

Eastwood's lawyer had shown jurors portions of a rambling journal in which Eastwood referred to mutants or transformers taking over his body, but prosecutors said Eastwood knew the difference between right and wrong.

Drugs will do that to you. Make you hear voices, be paranoid, and all sorts of other things. But i do NOT think its an excuse to go on a shooting rampage, and shoot 2 innocent 8th grade children! I'm so tired of this insanity defense bullcrap! It even states above he knows the difference between right and wrong! I say we need to start executing people like this, and rid our country of all of the evil people in this country, if not the whole world! I can tell you all exactly why these things keep happening... It's because there are no harsh punishments handed out anymore! Even if you get a death sentence you can expect to sit on death row for decades before it is ever even considered to be carried out! The monsters that commit these crimes have more rights than their victims have, and that is just sad! And for those that say the death penalty is not a deterrant is right on the money right now, but i'd bet dollars to dimes that if the punishments were carried out faster, and more harsh then it could be a very good deterrant! And if it isnt then at least these monsters would be dead and never able to hurt another person again!!!! Thats good enough for me!!
