The beginning of September and all of its back-to-school hulabaloo somehow always triggers a dip in restaurant-going; therefore, it's especially ballsy of the following six restaurants to fete their grand openings this month. Thing is, we're not worried at all (and we're hungry!) -- these are the most promising September openings we've seen in, well, forever:
You cannot discuss the opening of Michael Voltaggio's ink. without inserting the use of "finally." (The exclamation point is optional.) But delays be damned, the restaurant is open and unshockingly serving various forms of ash with its food. If eating soil piques your palate, you might get a coffee-cardamon variety to complement young turnips and radishes. Needless to say, Angelenos are excited.
Besides the little sack-lunch sandwiches next door and last year's mirage of Test Kitchen appearances, we haven't eaten Voltaggio's food before. And judging from the difficulty of reservation-snagging (how's November 18 looking, everyone?), the hype is real, and the winner of the most thrilling season of "Top Chef" is (finally) leaving his mark, er, tattoo, on LA.
