First Posted: 10/ 2/2011 3:41 pm Updated: 03/ 2/2012 12:22 pm

Since Etsy.com launched in 2005, the online marketplace featuring over 400,00 vendors selling their handmade wares has become a go-to resource for couples looking to elevate their nuptials with one-of-kind, DIY touches (there's even a dedicated section of the site just for weddings).

Below, we present a curated selection of our favorite wedding objects from Etsy sellers. We'll be bringing you a new object, and its unique story, every week, so check back frequently.

Etsy designer Lilybuds Bouquets was asked by a bride to custom-design an "Alice in Wonderland"-themed bouquet. Lilybuds created this beautiful button bouquet, which any "Alice"-loving bride can now purchase. Says the designer, "There are many "Alice" items on the bouquet; 'Drink Me' bottles filled with glitter, black top hats, silver keys, vintage hand-spun cotton mushrooms, worded charms that say 'Off with their heads!', 'Tea party' and 'Drink me', miniature porcelain tea sets with tiny doilies, crowns and much more."

Some of the fondant creations on Etsy are mind boggling. If you do a search, you'll see some of the most amazing birthday cake or wedding cake toppers and decorations. The seashell ones look so real and are very reasonable. I was at a recent wedding where the bride made her cake and used the seashells to decorate it and you couldn't tell it from a professional cake (she's no professional).

75% of the "handmade objects" on Etsy are mass-produced in China and resold under the guise of being "handmade".

Where do you get your information? I'm a seller on Etsy, and I certainly handmake what I create.

There is one seller (Pugetsoundweddings), on Etsy that has the most uniquely beautiful hand made one of a kind card boxes ever. I have seen so many exceptional designs in the past from this seller. I also understand the seller is one heck of a wedding planner.
