This Could Be The Next IPhone, According To Giga Netwerkz (PICTURES)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 10/02/11 11:22 AM ET   Updated: 12/02/11 05:12 AM ET

The people at Giga Netwerkz have built a mockup of what they believe an "iPhone 5" device will look like. Apple may announce a new iPhone on October 4, and speculation seems to be split over whether it the device will be called the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S, or whether Apple will announce both devices simultaneously.

According to a post on Giga's website, the new iPhone will be slightly wider than its predecessor with a screen that goes clear to the edge of the phone. Based on iPhone 5 cases that were seen by M.I.C. Gadget, the phone may also be taller than the current iPhone 4. Many seem to agree that it will be thinner, with a teardrop shape that slims perceptibly at the bottom. Giga's mockup indicates that Apple will dispense with the glass back of the iPhone 4 and return to the aluminum back of the original iPhone. This is supported by leaked iPhone 5 case photos that were published by Mashable.

Another physical change could be to the Home button. According to Giga's mockup, the circular button could become an oval, which will work more like the touchscreen. "There have been numerous rumors that Apple is moving away from the mechanical to a capacitive button that reacts to a light touch," Giga writes on their site. The idea of an elongated home button is supported by leaked screen protectors, which can be seen on MacRumors website.

Whatever the aesthetic differences, they are likely to be slight. On October 1, 9to5Mac spotted details about an iPhone 4S device buried inside the most recent iTunes developer beta. The data also includes a picture of what could be the upcoming device, and it looks more or less identical to the Verizon iPhone 4, reports 9to5Mac.

Other rumors about the iPhone 4S indicate that the device will be a cheaper version of its predecessor. A new iPhone may also feature a faster processor and may come with voice recognition technology.

We'll soon know which speculation was closest to the mark: Apple is gearing up for its official iPhone event on Tuesday October 4.

For now, check out our slideshow (below) of Giga's iPhone mockup, and visit Giga Netwerkz to see more. Do you think we'll see a new iPhone that looks like this? Is this is the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S? Let us know in the comments.

I liked Letterman's iPhone, with a rotary dial. Tired of waiting for the 5 version.

I certainly see them going with the softer beveled design of the iPad.

i love how huffpo is always alllll about promoting apple's newest phone. so that what, their loyal sheeple customers can continue buying a new iphone every year for hundreds of dollars. yet when netflix raised prices by like what $7 max, huffpo was so offended, insulted, and shocked and went on a smear campaign against netflix. literally posted the worst "journalism" ever....it was like a 17 year old girl's blog complaining about life.
but ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh mighty iphone, come here says huffpo, let me rub your goodies and tell the world how great they are.
bah.
over it.
and this isn't bashing iphone, iphone users, iphone fanatics, etc. this is bashing huffpo's love of a price gouging company while smearing negativity about a super cheap nexflix co.

Probably because Apple is a Liberal owned company....Steve Jobs, and Al Gore is on the board. So they are a good company. Any company with a Republican owner is as good as the dev1l.

True, the Huff is a very Liberal-leaning publication.

Are you really comparing the news on the technology of the iPhone (which revolutionized cell phones) with a DVD rental company???
12:17 PM on 10/05/2011
In fairness, Netflix raised their rates nearly 80% for most users. It's not the $7 increase that is the problem. It's a company increasing their profit about ten fold when the economy has people too poor to do anything but watch TV.

I'm astonished at the amount of nitwits who are upset that people care about this. This is the most important piece of tech in an emerging market(sorry, samsung and rim)-clearly people who are fans of it will find even iterative improvements interesting.

Yeah, because it's really important that the couple hundred models with an Android OS barely manage to outsell two iPhone models.

All of this hooplah over a phone whose PRIMARY purpose is still just to make a phone call. Have we been brainwashed by technology and retailers. How many will scrap their iPhone 4 to get the new phone! Sad! Simply Sad!
02:11 AM on 10/04/2011
Actually, that's not its "primary" purpose for many of us. The ability to make a voice call is just a plus for many, and a minus or a no-op for others, with data and text being the main purpose -- I know more than a few people who never make voice calls on their mobiles, and in some cases, never make voice calls at all.

As QNetter said, for many of us, phone calls aren't the primary purpose.

I love having so many different functions combined into something that slips easily into my pocket. If I don't have my iPad with me, my iPhone is indispensable. If I want to check my stocks, make a quick note, look up an actress whose name I've forgotten, search for a place to eat near me, etc., I am set.

And I don't have an iPhone 4. I skipped for the 5 (or whatever they call it). My 3GS is getting a bit long in the tooth, so I will definitely be updating. And no, it's not sad at all. It's called progress.

Anyways, more than the iPhone 5, I'm SUPER excited for iOS 5 and iCloud. That's what I'm really, really waiting for.
