Bank Of America Website Down Again

Bank Of America

The Associated Press   10/ 3/11 02:43 PM ET   AP

Bank of America's website, plagued by problems Friday and Saturday but supposedly fixed on Sunday, wasn't working again Monday.

Many users trying to access bankofamerica.com get a message saying the home page is temporarily unavailable. But spokeswoman Tara Burke said customers who experience slowness or can't get into their accounts should keep trying.

Burke said the access problems are a result of the bank managing traffic volume during peak use.

"We've simply taken some proactive measures to manage customer traffic during peak hours during the day," she said. "That could result in some customers experiencing slowness or temporarily having access issues."

She declined to say whether volume has surged in recent days.

The problems began Friday, a day after the bank said it would start charging a $5 monthly fee for customers using debit cards. Burke insisted there's no connection. The delays and the home page message persisted Saturday, but Burke said Sunday that things were fine.

She said Monday that there's been no hacking and no customer information was compromised.

She said the company doesn't break out the root cause of website problems and had no estimated time for when the sit might begin working normally for all customers.

Bank of America, based in Charlotte, N.C., is the biggest U.S bank as measured by deposits.

It offers customers a free eBanking account if they do all their banking online and at ATMs. Customers are charged an $8.95 monthly fee for the account if they also use branch locations.

Bank of America shares fell 30 cents, or 4.8 percent, Monday afternoon to a new 52-week low of $5.83. The stock peaked for the year in mid-January at $15.25. It has fallen 61 percent since.

Makes no sense their website would be sluggish/not operable for 5 days. Are they doing it intentionally to avoid or conceal a liquidity problem due to users placing demands on their own deposits?

I think you are right -- with all the crazy, insane fees that they routinely charge (and get away with it), they didn't think people would so riled up about a $5 fee AND START TRYING TO PULL OUT ALL THEIR MONEY. So the bank has been making access difficult. They are the worst.

Bottom line, a Bank is a business, there are many, many Banks in this country--choose another.

This should be a boon to small Banks they should be out there trying to romance your buck or two into their accounts.

No one is loaning money these days -- unless you don't need a loan -- the ease of getting a large loan was the numero uno reason to do business with a big Bank.

Invest in America and move your money in to a small Bank -- you just might save an American job.

You want a friend? Don't look toward big business...you know better than that...

Guess she's talking about those bothersome pests who are trying to make payments or access information about their life savings.

Shares have dropped to less than $6. They are "managing traffic"...online. They've instituted a number of ridiculous fees. Customers are fleeing like the bank is on fire. BoA looks like it's beginning to succome to it's own flesh-eating virus.

Maybe they are running away with your money. What is left of it, that is.

At least the eBanking is still free. When the site is up.

They are trying to make sure all references and tools that might exist for customers to close their accounts are removed entirely.

Gotta shut down a site once in awhile to get that done.

That "consumer traffic" is the rush of consumers closing out their accounts, which could explain the website having "access issues" to hang onto a few bucks.

Where is their IT department? I mean, what continent? A crashed web site can kill your business. Pass the popcorn.
