New York Gay Marriage: 'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro Bakes Cake For Lesbian Couple (VIDEO)

'Cake Boss' Makes His First-Ever Lesbian Wedding Cake For NY Couple

Long Island lesbian couple Dee Smith and Kate Wrede planned to be among the first same-sex couples to marry in New York in July after Gov. Andrew Cuomo legalized gay marriage. Just days before their wedding, the couple met with New Jersey-based pastry chef Buddy Valastro, owner of Carlo's Bakery and the star of TLC's "Cake Boss," to order a custom cake for their Big Day.

"The first wedding, that's pretty awesome!" says Valastro in this clip from a new episode of "Cake Boss," airing tonight at 10 pm EST on TLC. He suggests a "modeling chocolate sculpture" of the couple as a cake topper.

Wrede tells Valastro that's she'll be wearing a dress and Smith will wear a tux. That's no problem for the Cake Boss: "That's how we're gonna sculpt you guys then," he says.

The couple was among the first to marry in New York on July 24--they said their "I Do's" at 12:14 am. "It was the best day of my life," Wrede told Newsday after the ceremony. "It's better than a dream. It's a real day where we were happy and everything was beautiful."
