Salvador Dali Talks Genius Death, And Cauliflower In 1958 Interview

Dali Apes Straightlaced Reporter

From his gravity-defying moustache to his enchantingly impenetrable accent, Salvador Dali is anything but easily understood. His eccentric personality, both a genius and a clown, make for an amusing interview with straightlaced journalist Mike Wallace.

The more Wallace interrogates Dali, trying to pinpoint his inconsistencies, the more Dali resists, showing that he does more than just paint surrealism, he lives it. Wallace's logical voice and Dali's dream voice cannot help but bump heads, while enlightening answers form in the space between them.

This 1958 clip shows the workings of, as Dali calls it, the "cosmogony of Dali." Find out why he won't take off his shoes in public, why he rides around with a car full of cauliflower and why he is considering Roman Catholicism, below.
