Chris Pratt Gives His Cat Up For Adoption, Explains On Blog

Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt plays a lovable dunce Andy Dwyer in "Parks and Recreation," but he knew exactly what he was doing when he took to Twitter to solve his pet problem on Monday.

The actor tweeted that he was giving his and wife Anna Faris's old, incontinent cat up for adoption, asking his followers if any had interest in taking in the animal. He soon heard back and passed along the feline, but was struck by the negative backlash he received.

Taking to his blog to clear up the situation, Pratt wrote that he was sensitive to the criticism and assured fans that he had found the cat a good home.

Read excerpts from the blog below; for the rest, click over to Pratt's site:

To those of you somehow hung up on the notion that I kicked the walker out from underneath our cat and threw her into the streets, first of all, cats don’t use walkers, so that’s a ridiculous notion. Secondly… I found my aging cat a god damn loving home! Ease up with the death threats for heaven’s sake!

Bottom line, and not that this is any of your fucking business weirdos, but my wife and I want to start a family and we ABSOLUTELY CANNOT have an animal that sh*ts all over the house. Sorry. If you are a parent you will understand. And if not, that probably explains why you have such a hard on for cats. Just sayin’.

So please! Stop with the harassing tweets! That sh*t affects me. I’m human. I don’t like being told that I should be “put on an ice floe when I get old and incontinent. Shitbird” or being called a “douche” or told that “prat=as*hole in england. looks like the shoe fits!” I know that already! Not to brag but I’ve been to England. “Pratt hey? Did you know that means Arsehole in the UK?” “Yes I did Prince William. Thank you for asking.” (it should be noted that I’ve never met Prince William, nor did he ever call me an arsehole) I am not an arsehole.

I have had my cat 14 years, since she was a small kitten. I can't see myself giving her away just because she gets old. This cat, however, is probably better off in a new home even though it most likely went through an adjustment period. Yes, cats do get attached to their caregivers, even to those that don't care.

I've never even heard of this guy until now. Apparantly - at least according to the article - he received some very nasty tweets. O.K., so I can understand that he wouldn't have been too thrilled about that. However, his response was just as "childish" and "nasty". Would have been much better to take the high road Chris - especially since you're a public figure (although I still have no idea who he is?). Now do the animals in our world a favor and don't get another one. Pets are family and giving away a cat that you've had for so many years is HEARTLESS!!!

I'm glad he found the cat a home. Kudos to him for that. However as the person before me said......just let it go. Why do you have to embarrass yourself with these stupid comments and fowl language?

I get that he wanted to rehome his cat, not something I would do in that position, but to each his own, but he comes off as a major A R S E hole with this ridiculous rant
01:47 AM on 10/07/2011
We can debate if he is a compassionate animal lover or not, but it is really ok if he gave the cat to a good home, for whatever reason he thought was legitimate. Most pregnant women don't get rid of their cats, but some do.

What bothers me is his rant. He doesn't seem to be a great guy and I hope he doesn't carry that sort of nastiness over to his wife and future children.

As far as taxoplasmosis, anyone can get it if you don't wash your hands after changing the cat box (assuming your cat even has it....you can test them for it). You can also get it from undercooked meat, out in your yard, handling raw meat (if it is contaminated), having it transfered from cutting boards, on and on.....anyway, it isn't airborne, as some say.

If you publicly tweet your personal life out on TWITTER or post it on FACEBOOK to the general public or passing acquaintances what are you bitchin' about? People want to talk smack and sometimes be cruel, until comments just get dumb & dumber. ..."forget about it."

Considering he and his wife want to have a baby, I think it's understandable. He could have taken the cat to a shelter, but so many of them euthanize the animals after a certain amount of time. Now, that won't happen. In Denver there is an organization called The Max Fund. They will NEVER kill an animal. If is doesn't get adopted, they just keep it. These animals are given love and respect there and I always donate to them.

He realizes owning a cat makes him look gay. He's doing the right thing. It's called maning up. He finally grew one pubic hair on his sack probably.
09:22 PM on 10/06/2011
He still looks gay!
09:44 PM on 10/06/2011
Yes, he looks very gay.
01:04 AM on 10/07/2011
did you get dropped on your head at birth? owning a cat is gay? really? most gays I know have a dog or no pet at all. get a clue! It's not the type of pet you own it's what you say and do, nimrod.

Being this decision is a very private one, why does one make it so public...the Shrink Opinion would be that inside he has doubts about the decision and desires approval...being a cat lover myself I have lovingly held many of my infirm, sick elderly cat in my arms as they passed through the gates of death, it was difficult, it hurt and I would not want it any other way...does this make me a better man or person than Him...No...No and no...And I object to those who would Hate Him for it...some are better than others regarding things like this, all I would beg is that the cat is well cared for untill it passes...I don't know what else to say.

wow! He is in the wrong line of work to be this sensitive. Maybe he should re think future actions regarding pets. He went the wrond way in trying to get rid of it. Brought on the backlash yourself buddy.

At least he did make sure it got a good home, no matter how it was done.

When you adopt an animal it should be for the rest of his life. Everyone should know that animals age faster than humans and most likely you will end up with an elderly cat/dog/whatever. This is a commitment that you make to your pet--I will take care of you. Obviously this cat is not in the best of health and does not have much longer to live. Would it have hurt them to wait a little longer? No matter how good and loving his new home is, the cat problably feels abandoned. I would no more abandon my elderly cats than I would my children. Yes, you can have a "hard-on" for cats and still have children.

Absolutely agree with you, you are 100% correct. Animals are not there for our entertainment as long as they are in good health and it is convenient. You bring an animal into your life, you take responsibility for it until the very end, no matter how difficult. That's the moral contract we have with companion animals.

PLUS these people have sufficient funds to hire a caretaker so that the animal could stay in the home and not be traumatized by being in a new place with new people at the end of its life. Shame on this guy, whoever he is.

It SHOULD be for the rest of his/her life, but things happen, things change and sometimes difficult decisions need to be made. Especially when the situation affects the rest of your family.

I know everyone here thinks I'm the devil for using logic & reason, but I've been in this situation myself. It's awful and heartbreaking, but unless you're in that person's shoes and know all the details, you can't really judge.
04:23 PM on 10/07/2011
yeah we can. they don't even have a bun in the oven yet. and, are we to believe neither of these people didn't foresee having children and that they wouldn't want a pet in that case? no, she got the pet knowing she'd throw it away when it became too inconvenient. what a bunch of losers. i can see what's gonna happen to their marriage.

Things happen? What happened? They decided they wanted to get pregnant!!! It won't wait a little while? And when she does become pregnant, if the poor kitty is still around, give it a humane death with love and dignity. Do NOT give him away! It may come as a surprise to a lot of people but animals do have feelings. I know they can feel abandoned. I took care of a friend's cat for 2 months while she was in the hospital and you should have seen him when she came to pick him up. He had been unhappy and moping even though I tried my best and gave him a lot of love and attention. When she walked in he was practically doing cartwheels!!!!

You going to stick your old incontinent relative in a shelter too? She deserves better than to be abandoned at her age. Yes, she has problems, you can help her.
