Weekend Track Work Will Close Green And Yellow Line Stations

WASHINGTON -- For all those planning on using Metrorail over the upcoming three-day Columbus Day weekend, be aware that major track switch reconstruction work will force the suspension of Green and Yellow Line train service at the Shaw, U Street and Columbia Heights stations.

As The Huffington Post reported last week, Metro has been preparing for the track work, which will involve the installation of new switch components. Shuttle bus service will be provided between the Mount Vernon Square and Georgia Avenue-Petworth stations and will serve the closed stations.

The shutdown will start Friday at 10 p.m. and is scheduled to wrap up before the opening of the system on Tuesday. For customers on the northern end of the Green Line heading downtown, Metro suggests transferring to the Red Line at Fort Totten to avoid the work zone between Georgia Avenue and Mount Vernon Square.

Additionally, Metrobus and D.C. Circulator service on 14th Street NW link downtown with U Street and Columbia Heights. Metrobuses on Georgia Avenue link the Mount Vernon Square, Shaw and Georgia Avenue-Petworth stations.
