Steve Jobs, co-founder and former CEO of Apple, has died at age 56, according to statements released October 5.

Jobs had resigned as Apple's CEO in August, leaving much speculation about his health. He had been battling cancer for some time received a liver transplant in 2009, the AP reports.

On October 5, Apple posted a tribute to the late co-founder on their site, and both Apple's board and Jobs' family have released statements.

But it's more than just Apple and those close to Jobs that are feeling the loss of the tech legend. Celebrities, politicians tech titans and consumers around the world poured out their condolences through Twitter and other blogging platforms. Even Google's home page honored Jobs with a subtle tribute.

Always a celebrated public speaker, Jobs's most famous popular quotes continue to resonate with fans and mourners around the world as they remember his legacy.

"[Y]ou can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future," Jobs said in a 2005 commencement address at Stanford University. "You have to trust in something -- your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."
