John Boehner: Jobs Bill Requires Obama To Compromise

John Boehner Jobs Bill

First Posted: 10/06/11 11:39 AM ET Updated: 12/06/11 05:12 AM ET

WASHINGTON -- Speaker John Boehner's office is leading a new call for the president to compromise with House Republicans on pieces of his jobs bill, now that the bill in its entirety has been declared dead in the House of Representatives.

The speaker's office unveiled a graphic on Thursday stating that "all roads lead to nowhere for the president's job bill" unless the White House is willing to compromise on portions with the Republican-controlled House.

President Barack Obama repeatedly called in recent weeks for Congress to pass his $447 billion American Jobs Act, which the White House sent to Congress on Sept. 12.

But neither chamber has expressed much interest in passing the bill as is, with even the Democrat-controlled Senate announcing this week they will change the way the bill's spending is funded, targeting millionaires for a five percent tax increase rather than pegging the payment on broader tax increases on the wealthy and ending subsidies for big oil. Senate Democrats filed their modified jobs bill on Wednesday.

In the House, the bill is likely to be taken up in a piecemeal fashion -- if at all -- based on the few portions that Republicans and Democrats agree on. Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said on Monday the bill would not be voted on in its entirety.

"You know, this all-or-nothing approach is unreasonable," Cantor said when asked about Obama's push to pass the full bill. "There are many issues that I have listed here that we can work together on. So instead of continuing to maintain this sort of campaign posture, let's do something to work together."

The graphic released on Thursday is part of a call by House Republicans for Obama to compromise on his jobs bill. Boehner identified a few main areas of potential agreement in a September letter to his conference. Republicans may be willing to extend a 100 percent bonus depreciation for businesses, create tax incentives for hiring veterans, allocate some infrastructure funding, authorize unemployment insurance reforms and change a three percent withholding requirement for government contractors.

Lets face one fact that we have witnessed time and again since Obama took office. When republicans say compromise what they mean is they will reduce whatever the bill is to as near to worthless as they can get it. They will protect the interest of the rich, at the expense of the poor, they will defend with their office the right (they believe) of the rich to plunder the middle class and abuse the poor. Cantor said "...let's do something to work together."

Now, that is pretty hilarious.

The GOP wants to double down on the weakest portions of the jobs package - the ones that help the rich the most and actually would generate the fewest jobs - while torpedoing the rest.

That way, a few months from now, nearer the election, they can say OBAMA'S jobs bill is a failure.

We've down this road before with the stimulus. It wasn't enough to begin with, but and even the version that passed did help a little, but it was pegged as a failure by the GOP after they did their best to make sure it would fail.

These idiots in the TeaParty/Republicans (Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and Ryan) have done more damage to this country than any traitor in history. They ran campaigns on creating jobs, and because we democrats stayed home in 2010, the Tea Party gained seats in Congress. All they've done is obstruct or delay or deny any effective legislation unless it benefited the wealthy lobbyists who control this "gang of four". In their efforts to ensure that President Obama will be a one-term president, Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and Ryan have hurt this country. Maybe as President Obama said "the voters will run them out of town." But I would like to see this gang of four run out of our country.

Boehner is breathtakingly obtuse. The president is giving the GOP a little of their own medicine called, "My way or the highway." Ya think Boehner gets it? Nope. "All roads lead to nowhere", which is the same as "You can't get there from here," the perfect metaphor for the GOP plan for job creation.

Didn't Obama literally hand Congress the legislation in its proper format immediately? You know, that thing he smashed together with the cheap paperclip?

Even if no, I don't suppose the GOP would mind submitting a plan that the CBO can certify in the same manner regarding jobs... note that none of Boehner's gripes have any facts to back them up. So sayeth the Wikipedia; [citation needed], please.

Boehner is still holding America hostage for the sake of political power that is sided up with Banksters and Big Business. That he is willing to sacrifice the lively hood of the American people in exchange for power is not a character trait the people in this country need in congress. He is more aligned with China and US based companies that have factories in China that work hand in hand with Goldman Sachs. Basically, Boehner is not holding the interests of the American People with the priority that we deserve.

A Little History on Taxes and Jobs

In 1951, the highest individual income tax rate was 91% by 1959 it was still 91%, top corporate tax rates peaked in the 1950s 52% (and no one called Eisenhower a socialist)

And? Private sector employment increased by 22% in the 1950’s

In 2000, the highest individual tax rate was 39.6% and in 2003 it dropped to 35% where it remains today, the top corporate is 35%.

And? Private sector employment fell by 2.9% in the 2000’s.

Heres the links where I got the data:

So how does “taxing the job creators” prevent economic and job growth?
